A plane passenger got an unpleasant surprise when they stuck their hand in their seatback pocket on a recent flight.
The flyer shared a photo of a lock of hair sticking out of the pouch in a post on Reddit documenting the experience.
“Just sat down in my seat and I see this…” the user wrote, adding, “So gross. Just a confirmation that the planes are not cleaned well 😭.”
Delta Airlines did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
Fellow Reddit users in the comment section noted the strands, which seemed to be attached at one end, were likely a hair extension or part of a weave.
Others who were seemingly equally grossed out by the discovering, suggested the passenger travel with a few personal cleaning supplies.
“And this is why I don’t care when people look at me funny that I travel with a pouch full of Clorox wipes, disinfectant spray, sanitizer, and a few dry wipes. People are just gross!” one commenter wrote.
Another Delta passenger recently went viral for an entirely different experience with the airline.
TikTok user Hannah White shared how the airline went to great lengths to ensure she’d arrive in time to say a final goodbye to her dying mother.
“Delta’s kindness gave me 24 extra hours with her. I was able to say ‘I love you’ one last time,” she wrote on the now-viral video.
White got a call fromm her brother, who told her that their mother had gone into septic shock and doctors couldn’t predict “how long she had” left. She got the first flight out, but when mechanical issues caused her first flight to be delayed, White realized she might not make her connection.

When the flight attendants saw White’s emotional reaction to the prospect of missing her flight, one shared White’s story with the pilot, who arranged for the connecting flight to wait for her. The flight attendants even bumped White up to first class so she could get off the plane faster once it touched down.
“You gave me the gift of time,” White wrote on the video, thanking the airline.
