The Beckham family are regular faces at Fashion Week, between Victoria Beckham’s eponymous fashion label’s annual show in Paris and Romeo taking to the Versace runway in Milan.

One person who never misses the opportunity to show his support for his family is David, 50, who regularly graces the front row. While David usually treats the FROW as a family affair, he recently made a rare solo outing at the Boss show at the Milan Menswear Fall/Winter 2026/2027 Fashion Week, where he debuted a subtle new hairstyle.

Pictured alongside S.Coups and Daniel Grieder, the former England footballer seemed to sport thicker, fuller hair, swapping his cropped sides and voluminous quiff for a sweeping look that starts at the crown.

We enlisted the help of hair experts to break down exactly how David achieved the subtle, “youthful” transformation.

How to style hair for thickness

“As both men and women begin to age, we often notice our hair becoming thinner in some areas – shorter hairstyles with more texture are great for rejuvenating the hair, giving it a thicker appearance by adding more body and volume,” explained Tina Farey, Editorial Director at RUSH and a hairstylist with 29 years of experience, including backstage at Fashion Weeks, who added that David’s thicker-looking locks has given his hair a more “youthful appearance.”

While gel and hair wax can add texture, she warns: “Avoid going too heavy on that gel as this can weigh down the hair’s appearance. I’d recommend a light hairspray instead to boost the hair’s volume and thickness.”

Meanwhile, celebrity hairstylist and founder of Studio23, Jason Collier, added that a volumising base product with a strategic blow-dry, a light texture spray, mousses and scalp-safe thickening serums are further ways to naturally boost the appearance of thickness.

According to the expert, whose clientele includes Victoria Beckham and Laura Whitmore, they “create the appearance of more density by slightly swelling the hair shaft and lifting at the root.”

David may also be tweaking his daily routine to help maintain his hair health over time.

“We can’t rule out more sustained approaches such as scalp care or targeted treatments. Products with ingredients that support scalp circulation and strengthen hair, such as caffeine, niacinamide or peptide blends, can, over time, help hair look thicker and healthier, though the effect is more subtle compared with in-salon styling or spray-on products.”

“You’re realistically looking at 3-6 months to see noticeable changes”

Thickening hair naturally

Tina noted that lifestyle and genetics can dictate the thickness of your hair, and said scalp massages can help improve your chances of healthy, luscious locks at home. But be prepared to invest time and patience!

David potentially invested up to six months into the fuller hair we see today. Speaking of the “gradual process”, Jason explained: “If someone is focusing on strengthening the hair and encouraging thicker growth via scalp health and targeted treatments, you’re realistically looking at 3-6 months to see noticeable changes, and often longer depending on individual hair cycles and overall health.

“Hair grows about half an inch per month on average, so building density naturally takes time and consistency.”

However, he concluded that for big events such as Milan Fashion Week, visible thickness is likely the result of cosmetic enhancement rather than dramatic new growth.
