Daniel Craig is teasing Bond fans!
On Sunday, Nov. 17, the actor, 56, attended the 15th Governors Awards at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and hinted that the next James Bond âmight beâ in the room.
âLetâs just get something out of the way,â Craig said while introducing Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, who were honored with the the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award.
âIf you came here this evening to find out who the next James Bond is, donât look at me, but he might be in the room. Iâm just joking. Maybe Iâm not,â he added.
Craig, who played Bond in Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015) and No Time to Die (2021), revealed earlier this month that he doesnât care who plays the next Bond, while talking to Variety.
The producers behind the franchise are also still working on creating a new future for the worldâs most famous spy.
Speaking to the Associated Press ahead of the awards, Wilson, 82, and Broccoli, 64, said casting a new Bond was âa big decision.â
âEvery time we cast a new actor, the films change. Itâs the excitement of a new Bond, a new direction,â Wilson added. âEvery one of these people who took on the role offered something new and different.â
As usual, they wonât be short of willing candidates. Kicking off the night, actor Colman Domingo jokingly pitched himself to Broccoli and Wilson for a role. âI know that thereâs a list of phenomenal, handsome, athletic, suave and debonair actors vying to be the next James Bond,â said Domingo.
âNow if youâre thinking of me, I donât know what to tell you: Bond or Bond villain? You decideâŚI will leave my headshots on your table,â he added.
On Sunday, siblings Broccoli and Wilson, who run the production company behind the decades-old British spy franchise, accepted the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award.
The award is presented annually âto creative producers whose body of work reflects a consistently high quality of motion picture production,â according to an announcement by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences made on June 12.

The award has only been handed out 39 times since it was created in 1939, according to the AP. Broccoli is also just the second woman to receive this particular award, after Lucasfilmâs president Kathleen Kennedy received it in 2018.Â
âItâs very humbling,â Broccoli told the AP of the honor. âI think of so many people who have come before us, so many people I wish had been given the honor who arenât with us anymore.â
Broccoli also noted to the outlet that her father Albert âCubbyâ Broccoli received the same award at the 1982 Oscars, stating that his Oscars statuette âwas the most important physical possession he had.âÂ
Other figures honored at the 2024 Governors Awards included the late Quincy Jones, who died at 91 on Nov. 3, casting director Juliet Taylor and filmmaker Richard Curtis.
