Courtney Love has been living in London for the past five years â and she plans to make the move permanent.
The former Hole singer, 60, revealed that sheâll be getting her British citizenship in six months, and described the political situation in her native United States as âfrightening,â according to the Daily Mail.
Love sat for an interview with Todd Almond at Londonâs Geographical Society on March 4 to celebrate the release of his new oral history Slow Train Coming: Bob Dylanâs Girl from the North Country and Broadwayâs Rebirth, and also performed Dylanâs âLike a Rolling Stone.â
During their chat, the âCelebrity Skinâ singer raved about her life in London to the crowd.
âIâm really glad Iâm here. Itâs so great to live here. Iâm finally getting my British citizenship in six months. I get to be a citizen. Iâm applying, man! Canât get rid of me,â she reportedly said.
Though Love did not directly link her move to President Donald Trumpâs administration, the singer â who has been vocal in her disdain for Trump over the years â reportedly went on to compare his politics to âemperor-core,â and said things were âfrightening now.â
âIn terms of Trump, and particularly this group⊠itâs like emperor-core. Like, wearing million-dollar watches. Emperor-core is going on at Mar-a-Lago,â she said, according to the Mail.
A rep for Love did not immediately respond to PEOPLEâs request for comment.
Love moved from Los Angeles to London in October 2019, and explained to Soho Home in 2022 what she loved about the city: âLaws. No guns. Four seasons. Discourse. You stan a middle-aged woman far better. Discretion.â
âIâm an Anglophile. I love London, itâs my favorite city and is the best place Iâve ever lived,â she added to the London Evening Standard in 2024. âIâm left alone, there are laws here that protect me when Iâm being outspoken, I like the friends Iâve made here.â
The rocker is just the latest celebrity to leave the U.S. for the British Isles.
Earlier this month, Rosie OâDonnell announced that she and her 12-year-old child Clay moved to Ireland in January, and sheâs in the process of getting Irish citizenship.
âI was never someone who thought I would move to another country, thatâs what I decided would be the best for myself and my 12-year-old child. And here we are,â she said in a TikTok video. âYou know, Iâm happy. Clay is happy. I miss my other kids. I miss my friends. I miss many things about life there at home and Iâm trying to find a home here in this beautiful country and when it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, thatâs when we will consider coming back.â
The star alluded to changes made in the country since Trumpâs inauguration, saying, âItâs been heartbreaking to see whatâs happening politically and hard for me personally as well. The personal is political, as we all know.â
Comedian Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi also moved to England last year, relocating to the countryside after selling their California estate for $96 million.
