There’s nothing a little self tanner can’t fix — just ask Megan Moroney.

On Wednesday, March 5, the country star was announced as the new face of premium self-tanning brand St. Tropez. Speaking with PEOPLE about the partnership, the “Tennessee Orange” songstress opened up about her passion for a “St. Tropez slay.”

“I don’t go anywhere, and definitely not on stage, without some self tanner,” Moroney, 27, tells PEOPLE exclusively.

“It’s definitely a necessary part of my beauty routine,” she says, adding that the partnership felt “so organic.”

For Moroney, looking tan and feeling confident go hand-in-hand — and a “glowy tan can turn your day around.”

“I feel a lot better when I’m tan. Obviously, I don’t have time to be at the beach all the time to get the tanning results that I’d like, so I just always self-tan. And I think it is honestly a mood changer,” the “No Caller ID” singer says. “Me and my friends always talk about, ‘Am I sad or am I just pale?'”

Moroney’s relationship with self-tanning goes way back to her high school days. It was a learning curve at first — and she recalls rocking a “crusty spray tan” before she got the hang of it.

Still, as she navigates her busy touring and recording schedule, Moroney finds that self-tanning with St. Tropez is the perfect solution to her tanning needs.

“When you go in and get spray tans, you have to time it correctly and all this stuff, so it’s really nice. Sometimes I’ll self-tan myself at 2 a.m. if I have to,” Moroney, who’s gearing up to launch her Am I Okay? Tour in March, explains. “I just remember the convenience of self-tanning being really cool for me because I’m so busy and I’ve always been busy.”

As an experienced self-tanner, Moroney — who self-tans every week-and-a-half — has an “in-depth routine” and her No. 1 tip is to “exfoliate first.”

“I learned that the hard way. I think definitely starting on a clean slate, it helps the products go on much better. And usually I kind of have a friend help me sometimes too. Can’t do the back without a friend, to be honest,” the “Wonder” singer says.

Meanwhile, her favorite St. Tropez products include the Express Bronzing Mousse because she’s “always in a hurry,” and the Sunlit Skin Bronzing Tint + Tan. Moroney loves that “you can put makeup on top of it or just wear it alone.”

Per a release, the Sunlit Skin Bronzing Tint + Tan is a complexion perfecting tint that delivers an instant glow and develops as quickly as three hours. The Express Bronzing Mousse is known for delivering a fool-proof, golden glow on any skin tone.
