- Comedian Jeff Ross revealed on Instagram on that he spent the night in the hospital after having an allergic reaction to some ice cream he ate at a restaurant while on tour in California
- He shared a series of photos of himself in the hospital and said it was his “first allergic reaction ever”
- Ross promised that “despite looking like Mickey Rourke at the end of The Wrestler” — seemingly referring to his swollen face — he would be “back on stage” tonight
Jeff Ross was in for an unfortunate surprise when he tried a new flavor of ice cream while on tour.
On Sunday, April 6, the comedian, 59, shared a series of photos on Instagram of himself sitting in a hospital bed — along with a snapshot of the ice cream that landed him there.
According to Ross, he and his band were in Mill Valley, Calif., celebrating after a performance of his one-man show, Take a Banana for the Ride, when he started feeling ill and his face began to swell up.
“ROAST ME. TONIGHT’S SHOW NEAR SAN FRANCISCO MUST GO ON!” he began his post.
“Had such a fun opening night performance of @takeabananafortheride up here in Mill Valley, California @throckmortontheatre,” Ross continued. “Afterwards, me and the band celebrated with some burrata ice cream at a restaurant down the street courtesy of the nice owner. It was delicious. Seriously yummy.”
According to the comedian, despite how good the dessert tasted, his lips quickly “blew up” and he ended up in a nearby emergency room, where he spent an entire night.
“It was my first allergic reaction ever,” he wrote. “I guess that’s pretty remarkable considering I’m constantly shoving whatever food is in front of me into my face.”
“Thank you to the overnight shift at MarinHealth Medical Center for only roasting me a lightly,” he concluded, before sharing that he was preparing to perform tonight. “DESPITE LOOKING LIKE MICKEY ROURKE at the end of The Wrestler… I WILL BE TAKING A NAP AND BACK ON STAGE HERE IN MILL VALLEY NEAR SAN FRANCISCO AT 730pm TONIGHT. .”
A few of Ross’ celebrity friends chimed in underneath his post to wish him a good recovery — and to roast him, just a little bit.
“Sloth love chunk … and I can always be your chunk! Speedy recovery my brother,” *NSYNC alum Joey Fatone commented.
“Oh no! How dare burrata do that to you!?!? Hope you’re better already! Love you!” Kelly Rizzo, widow of the late actor Bob Saget, wrote.
“Didn’t even notice a difference,” comedian Josh Wolf joked.

Outside of his one-man show, Ross has been busy over the last year, appearing in multiple roasts including The Roast of Tom Brady — where he made headlines for one off-color joke that Brady, 47, didn’t seem to like.
During the Netflix special in May 2024, the seven-time Super Bowl champion leapt to his feet after the “roast master general” made a quip about New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft — and his 2019 soliciting prostitution charges.
“I’m the best decision your organization has ever made,” Ross joked during the special, channeling an imaginary conversation Brady had with Kraft after he was drafted by the team. The crowd laughed in approval before Ross added: “Would you like a massage?”
Brady could then be seen walking to the dais where he whispered in Ross’ ear. “Don’t say that s— again,” he told the comedian.
Since then, Ross has appeared in Torching 2024: A Roast of the Year, as well as the podcast series Kill Tony.
