A Colorado woman was arrested after she allegedly cut up her husband and stored his remains in several containers throughout her home, where she continued to live for several months.
The Colorado Springs Police Department announced on Sunday, September 20, that Sheldon “Shelly” Wilson has been charged with second-degree murder, tampering with a deceased human body and tampering with physical evidence.
The investigation into Wilson, 62, began when she went to police headquarters on Saturday, September 19, with her daughter to report that her partner was dead.
She told police the man died in March while she was at work, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by KRDO.
“[Y]ou’re going to find out a lot more real soon, it’s bad,” she allegedly told law enforcement. “[T]here’s no words for what you’re fixing to find out.”
Investigators then reported to her home, where they found black storage totes. Authorities also noted that the home smelled of decomposition.
Wilson then allegedly told police that the man’s remains were in the tote.
Police found decomposing human flesh with a human leg protruding from an open black trash bag in one tote, while another tote held a black trash bag that was tightly wrapped with duct tape.
Authorities also looked behind a privacy fence in the backyard, where they found a small single mattress that was covered in dark stains that law enforcement believed was blood and biological matter.
The charging document noted that 18 calls for service were made to the residence since December 2024 regarding allegations that Wilson was abusing her partner.
Meanwhile, a family member reported on December 17, 2025, that Wilson called them 40 times and expressed her desire to kill her partner.
While speaking to authorities, Wilson recalled getting drunk and waking up to find the victim bloody and injured from being beaten.
She also allegedly said that she could not recall exactly how she abused him, though admitted she had “done bad things” to the man on at least 10 separate occasions while she was under the influence of alcohol.
On March 17, Wilson allegedly woke up to find the victim unresponsive in bed. She recalled thinking, “What did I do?”
Wilson – who admitted to drinking the night before – covered the victim in some blankets before she went to work. When she returned home, she found that he was still unresponsive and that’s when she allegedly realized he was dead.
The man’s body remained in the living room for about a week, and she eventually dismembered his corpse so that her daughters would not discover what happened. Investigators said Wilson spread his remains throughout the house in various storage containers to conceal the evidence.
According to the unsealed arrest affidavit, Wilson said that her husband had suffered a series of strokes and he was ultimately placed in hospice care. She added that he appeared to be getting better at one point and was removed from hospice, though he was never strong enough to fight back.
One of Wilson’s daughters contacted police on September 17 to request a welfare check after she had not heard from him in a while, and that’s when the defendant realized she could no longer hide that she killed him, per the affidavit.
She later admitted that this police visit was the catalyst to her confession, when she realized she could not safely move or dispose of his body.
Wilson is currently being held at El Paso County Jail with no bond.
It is not currently clear if she has entered a plea or retained legal counsel following her arrest. The Colorado Springs Police Department had no additional updates to share when contacted by Us.
