Police in Colorado are on the hunt for a former school staffer accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old student, Us Weekly has learned.
Brenda Meza may be on the run, as police say they have been unable to find her.
Meza, 34, was a middle school staff member at Greeley-Evans School District 6, according to a statement from the Greeley Police Department.
In the same statement, investigators alleged Meza repeatedly sexually abused the victim over the course of several months.
Meza now has an active arrest warrant, police said, and is wanted on several unspecified felony charges. Authorities add that they have attempted to make contact with her directly to no avail.
Investigators have not detailed the specific allegations that have been made against Meza, so it is not known how she met the alleged victim. The alleged victimâs gender has also not been disclosed, and it is unclear how many instances of alleged sexual assault police claim occurred.
They also have not said where they believe Meza could be at this time.
Dr. Suzette Luster, the principal at Franklin Middle School, sent a letter home to parents informing them of the situation.
âStudent safety and security is always our first priority,â reads the note to parents. âWe are very sorry if these allegations have negatively impacted our school, staff and students. If your student needs extra support during this time, please reach out to our counseling office.â
The school district hired Meza in early 2020, according to police.
She worked at Franklin Middle School as the schoolâs secretary. She also served as an occasional substitute teacher and coached the cross-country team, according to investigators.
Police said that officers first stopped by her home in Greeley on February 12 after receiving information regarding the alleged, ongoing sexual abuse of a child. She was not home at the time and has not been seen since, according to cops.
Meza was placed on administrative leave the same day and was fired on February 25.
Anyone who may have any information pertinent to the investigation is urged to contact Detective Austin Burckley at [email protected]. Those who know Mezaâs whereabouts are asked to call 911 or contact Officer Zach Eberhard at [email protected] or (970) 502-2186.
If you or someone you know has been sexually assaulted, contact the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-HOPE (4673).
