Witty, self-depricating, and one of the best British presenting talents, Claudia Winkleman, graced our screens with the first episode of her BBC One chat show, The Claudia Winkleman Show, on Friday evening.
During the programme, the Traitors star, 54, sat down with Hollywood actors, Jeff Goldblum and Vanessa Williams, as well as British comedy stars, Jennifer Saunders and Tom Allen, but what did fans think of Claudia’s debut?
The former Strictly Come Dancing host left fans divided with their opinions after episode one. One fan penned on X: “I’m enjoying this, but the ‘well conveniently we have a person who is an expert in the thing you randomly brought up’ is a bit much… #TheClaudiaWinklemanShow.”
A second added that the audience participation element was too much, as they are more interested in the guests. “No offence to the audience, but they’re there to watch, people don’t care what random people in the crowd think, we tune it to see the guests.”
Meanwhile, other fans were delighted with the new programme, saying it’s Claudia “doing what she does best.”
“People critiquing #TheClaudiaWinklemanShow like it’s meant to be University Challenge hosted by her off of Strictly. It’s light, daft and Claudia’s doing exactly what she does best. Give it a minute, it’ll find its feet,” one audience member penned on X.
One added on Instagram: “Love the conversation style of the show so much [red love heart emoji] and the brilliant audience chat too! Smashing it @claudiawinkle.” Another penned: “Laughed my head off tonight, brilliant show.”
Talking about the programme ahead of it’s launch, Claudia said: “I can’t quite believe it and I’m incredibly grateful to the BBC for this amazing opportunity. I’m obviously going to be awful, that goes without saying, but I’m over the moon they’re letting me try.”
Who is on next week’s show?
According to the BBC website, Claudia’s next slew of guests will be West Side Story star Rachel Zegler, former One Direction band member Niall Horan, and comedians Joanne McNally and Guz Khan.
