Christy Carlson Romano is sharing her gratitude for life — and finding some humor in its circumstances — after she was “shot in the eye” last month.

The Even Stevens alum, 40, posted a candid Instagram message (and a silly skit) on Feb. 27 about how her life has “changed profoundly” in the three weeks since she was shot in the face.

As previously reported, Romano announced that while shooting clay pigeons in Texas as part of husband Brendan Rooney’s birthday celebration on Feb. 7, she was struck in the eye by “another party.” Now, in her latest update, she says the experience has left her “feeling more grateful than I’ve ever felt in my life” as she’s been “healing really well.”

“Every day, to me, is a gift,” Romano wrote in her Instagram caption. “I used to be so closed off about sharing the things in my life I loved out of fear of being judged. Now I just don’t care.”

“I’m going to share more about my hobbies, passions, comedy, family, just stuff that I care about,” she added. “It might be me singing in the car, it might be my obsession with skincare and beauty, or fashion, or cooking, or me just acting like a total weirdo with my husband. If it brings me joy and it’s not hurting anyone, I’m doing it.”

Romano also found some humor in her situation through a video skit she uploaded alongside her caption. In the clip, as her husband asked her about their car’s condition, her eating their Oreos and multiple package deliveries arriving at their home, she used “I just got shot in the face” as a retort a few times while smiling.

“Also, like I told you @thebrendanrooney I got shot, and I’m gonna eat all the damn Oreos, wherever and whenever I want,” Romano jokingly concluded her caption.

When sharing that she was struck by a bullet last month, the Austin-based actress assured fans that she was “safe” following the incident — which left her with a wound underneath her eye, a fragment stuck in her eye and another fragment lodged in her forehead. “Doctors will continue to monitor me,” the Kim Possible star wrote at the time, noting that she was able to “see normally at the moment.”

During the birthday celebration, Romano was shot by a “another party” who “unsafely fired in the wrong direction,” she revealed. She was hit in five different places — one of which was “less than an inch from hitting me directly in my right eye.” Her husband, she wrote, “immediately sprung into action, assessed me and rushed me to the hospital,” as first responders also stepped in to assist.

“With everything that happened, all I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive,” Romano — who shares two daughters with Rooney — added at the time. “I love my daughters, husband, family and friends so much. I saw my life flash before my eyes and I’m telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant. 🙏.”

In a later update on Feb. 12, Romano revealed that the fragment was “less than 1mm from permanently blinding me” and that she “should fully recover with no issues at all, though I may never be able to get an MRI again.” She also informed fans that the injury left her concussed.

On Saturday, March 1, Romano joked with fans on her Instagram Stories that she was “part-woman, part-machine” given that some of the fragments would remain in her face.

“Getting better every day,” she wrote. “I love you all. Gonna start sharing a lot more BTS of my life, too. Just loving this community ❤️.”
