Authorities got a little help in their investigation of an Indiana woman who stands accused of killing her boyfriend’s 9-year-old daughter through years of systematic abuse from the woman’s own child.
Alianna Maya Gomez-Alvarez was last seen alive in November 2021. Relatives called police in 2022 to report the girl missing, and in time, detectives would learn that Alianna had died. They also discovered that her body had been stuffed into a tote bag which was then placed in a storage unit located across state lines in Kentucky.
Chyanne Porter, 30, was actually convicted in December 2024 on charges of complicity in criminal abuse, tampering with physical evidence, and abuse of a corpse. Porter spent more than a year in a Kentucky jail following her conviction. However, on Tuesday, January 6, Indiana authorities had the mother extradited to face additional charges in that state.
In Indiana, Porter is accused of not only starving Alianna — who was a daughter her boyfriend, Jose Gomez-Alvarez, had from a prior relationship — but allegedly abusing the girl for years. Police investigating the girl’s death said they interviewed the two children that Porter shares with Gomez-Alvarez, and they both opened up about what happened inside their Evansville home.
“Can I tell you something?” one of the children reportedly asked a detective, according to an affidavit that was reviewed by Us Weekly. “My mom killed Alianna and then put her in the basement.”
The child didn’t stop there, though, going on to tell police that their parents took better care of their shared children than they did Alianna or Gomez-Alvarez’s two other kids.
“My mom never fed her. She was very, very skinny. She got skinny when my mom didn’t feed her,” the child said, according to the allegations in the affidavit.
One of Gomez-Alvarez’s other children apparently told police Porter and Gomez-Alvarez would hit, choke, and starve them, and they believed Alianna had starved to death.
The affidavit notes that neither Porter nor Gomez-Alvarez ever reported Alianna missing.
Porter has been charged with nine criminal counts in Indiana, including neglect of a dependent, obstruction of justice, abuse of a corpse, and failure to report a dead body.
Porter still has six years remaining on her sentence in Kentucky. Gomez-Alvarez, whose age was not clear, was also sentenced to five years after pleading guilty to abuse of a corpse and tampering with physical evidence, reports the Owensboro Times.
At the moment, there is nothing to indicate he will face charges in Indiana.
A start date for Porter’s impending trial in Indiana has not been set. She has not yet entered pleas to the nine new criminal counts.
WFIE spoke with Evansville Police Sergeant Anthony Aussieker about the case, and he said he hopes the victims are doing better now.
“Those are the cases that are going to stick with you forever. That’s the most vulnerable people,” he says. “We, as parents — speaking as a parent — that’s our number one job is to protect and nurture our children. These kids were not given that opportunity, it’s heartbreaking. So just thinking about those surviving children, hopefully they’re in a good, caring, stable environment and hopefully they’re flourishing and getting the treatment and the help that they need.”
