Pop icon Cher mistakenly called Luther Vandross up to the stage instead of Kendrick Lamar in a hilarious flub at the Grammys.
The âBelieveâ songstress was slated to announce Record of the Year at Sundayâs ceremony in Los Angeles â but she seemingly lost track of the task as she rambled about her career before attempting to leave the stage.
Host Trevor Noah stopped Cher in her tracks, requesting that she present the highly anticipated award before leaving.
The legendary singer, 79, then returned to the mic to make the announcement, pausing and turning to the side before admitting she thought the winner would be flashed on the prompter.
After opening the envelope, she enthusiastically announced the winner as Vandross â though the award actually was for Lamar and SZA for âLuther.â
She quickly corrected herself, shouting out that the honor was actually going to Lamar.
The eight-time Grammy winner, who boasted a mind-boggling 33 nominations throughout his career, passed away in 2005 at the age of 54.
Fans took to social media to acknowledge the blunder.
âCher said the Grammy goes to Luther Vandross. She wasnât that far off. I love how she acknowledged him. Heâs so missed,â one person wrote on X, while another added, âWaiting for the Cher memes ⊠omg sheâs too funny âŠâ
âCher ecstatically saying Luther Vandross has beautiful depth to it. Incredible,â remarked a third, with a fourth joking, âI love how excited Cher was to come back to give Luther Vandross the #Grammy.â
Another chimed in, ââAnd the Grammy goes to Luther Vandrossâ Never change Cher never change.â
Cher is no stranger to the Grammys â the beloved vocalist has received a Lifetime Achievement Award and a Grammy for her 1998 megahit âBelieveâ from the Recording Academy.
The songstressâs music career began in the 1960s and has continued for over six decades.
