The Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary special doubled as date night for Cher!
The legendary singer, 78, stepped out with boyfriend Alexander “AE” Edwards for the festivities in New York City on Sunday, Feb. 16, with the pair walking the carpet in matching black ensembles.
Cher, who wore a long, satin gown with rhinestone appliqués along a plunging sweetheart neckline, nuzzled up to Edwards, 39, as they posed for photos together. She also donned a black fuzzy shawl and a blonde, beehive-style updo.
Later in the night, Cher was spotted in the SNL audience sitting next to Kevin Costner.
The outing came two days after Cher performed her hit “If I Could Turn Back Time” at SNL50: The Homecoming Concert, which took place at Radio City Music Hall on Feb. 14. Other performers included Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Snoop Dogg and The Backstreet Boys.
She and Edwards, a music executive, have been linked since November 2022 after meeting at Paris Fashion Week.
She opened up to PEOPLE about their relationship in October 2023, saying she’d learned it was never too late to find love.
“I hate when people say people are special, but lots of people say I’m special, so I can say that he’s special,” she said. “No matter what happens, I love being with him. He makes me laugh, and we have fun. What I learned is that it’s never too late. If you wrote out all the statistics, you would go, ‘Well, this is doomed.’ But we’ve been together a year, and if it was just a year, it would’ve been worth it. I’ve had the best time.”
Several months later, she revealed that she’d broken two of her most important rules when she first met Edward.
“I left to go to Switzerland, and he texted me. He said, ‘Where are you going?’ I said, ‘I’m going to Switzerland, I’m a little tired.’ And then he wrote me, ‘Well, get some rest babyyy.’ And I went, he doesn’t know me well enough to put three y’s on baby,” the “Believe” singer said on an episode of Chicken Shop Date. “I was kind of pissed off. And then he just started texting me.”
She continued, “I told my friends, don’t fall in love with a younger man, we’re too old, and don’t ever fall in love by text. There goes that theory.”
Edwards has been an avid supporter of Cher over the last few years, and in October, brought his 5-year-old son Slash with him to cheer her on when she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
He was also on hand at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show that same month, where Cher sang “Believe” and “Strong Enough.”
