Carlos Alcaraz Has $39 Million in Prize Money — but Is Still Sleeping in a Twin Bed, Netflix Doc Reveals

Carlos Alcaraz doesn’t need luxury to be great.

In the trailer for Netflix’s upcoming documentary, Carlos Alcaraz: My Way, which dropped on Thursday, April 10, the 21-year-old tennis star proudly reveals his humble digs to viewers.

Alcaraz, who has just over $39.1 million in total prize earnings, brings cameras inside his quaint bedroom in Spain, where he grew up with his parents and three brothers. The room features a twin-sized bed with minimal bedding, some small cabinet drawers and a cubby wall filled with sneakers.

Above the sneakers, Alcaraz keeps his many tennis trophies from competing — and winning — in tournaments with greats like Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. “Here are all the champions,” he says, pointing to the different trophies in the trailer.

Alcaraz tells viewers that he’s “someone who enjoys spending time at home,” in the documentary, which premieres April 23 on the streaming service, but “tennis doesn’t allow that,” he adds.

“I want to spend time with my friends and family,” he continues. “I want to have free time. Right now, my fear would be to see tennis as an obligation.”

Alcaraz confesses, “I’d like to be the greatest in history. It’s my dream, but having fun is key to me,” as footage of the Spanish tennis star competing is shown.

The documentary follows Alcaraz’s journey on and off the court, through grueling training routines and various personal sacrifices, like “not seeing your family.”

“You don’t think about the level of physical demand, especially not the mental demand,” Alcaraz says of tennis. “I’m still young. There’s a lot of life ahead of me. I want to make my own decisions. And if I mess up, I want it to be on me,” he adds. “I’m building my path to become the greatest player in history. I want to do it my way.”
