āI can see being really pissed that I got this role, as someone else,ā Dylan told W after dad Sean Penn directed her in the 2021 drama Flag Day. At the same time, she added, as a working actress āIāve been auditioning forever. Iāve been rejected forever.ā
Regarding the kerfuffle over her brother starring in a Spielberg-daughter-directed short, Dylan stressed, āThis is the business. It is about who you know. Always. Whether youāre the son of Sean Penn or not.ā
Hopper, who made his movie debut in Seanās film The Last Face, told E! News in February that the nepo baby conversation didnāt really affect him.
āIām like, āIf you like it, cool. If you donāt, great,'ā he explained, having just made Devilās Peak with mom Robin Wright. āAnd if you think that thereās nepotism going on, I really donāt care because Iām gonna do the work just as professional as everybody else, and Iām not gonna come there and do it half-ass because Iām working with my dad, Iām working with my mom.'ā
Working with his father, Hopper noted, was the same āgreat nightmareā for him as it was for all the other actors who werenāt related to the director.Ā
And on any project, he added, āif I messed up on the film the first day, Iād be fired just like everyone else. Or, if I was terrible, Iāll be terrible. And I have been terrible.ā
