Candace Cameron Bure is used to criticism after growing up in the spotlight, but negative comments about her voice hit differently.
During the Tuesday, August 11, episode of her “Candace Cameron Bure Podcast,” which took a look back at her season 4 interview with Revere Church pastor Bianca Juarez Olthoff, the pair discussed how their biggest insecurities have been turned into their super powers.
Olthoff, 46, kicked off the conversation, revealing that she was illiterate as a child and made fun of in Sunday school before asking God to teach her how to read.
Once she could read, she vowed to give God her “voice,” saying as a global speaker she takes God’s words and uses them to “preach” and to “speak.”
“I believe there are people out there who your greatest embarrassment is going to be the thing that God uses to bring freedom to many people,” Olthoff explained.
Cameron Bure, 50, was in total agreement, telling her guest, “I get a lot of criticism for my voice.”
The Full House alum grabbed a box of tissues as she started to tear up over the topic.
“People always comment [on] how annoying my voice is,” Cameron Bure continued.
Olthoff was taken aback by the confession, asking, “Wait, the sound of your voice?”
“Mm-hmm. All the time,” Cameron Bure replied, claiming that she’s heard haters say things like, “Oh, I turned off my TV because her voice is so annoying.”
The actress admitted, “It’s a lot. It’s the one criticism I constantly hear is my voice.”
Cameron Bure noted that like Olthoff, she’s chosen not to let the trolls get her down.
“I started reading the Bible on my socials just because while I’m doing my daily reading, whatever is speaking to me I just want to share that,” Cameron Bure explained, noting it’s usually “just a few verses, maybe a paragraph” on her Instagram Stories.
Despite being self-conscious about her voice, Cameron Bure shared that the readings have given her more confidence.
“I’ve never had more people say to me, ‘I love to hear you read the Bible. You make the Bible come alive for me. Will you keep reading the bible, please? I love the sound of your voice,’” she revealed.
Cameron Bure confessed, “It feels so redemptive that, like, God’s using the very thing that glorifies him and the thing that’s brought me pain and then be rewarded for it. Not in a personal way rewarded. But people like the sound of my voice when I read the Bible. So I’m like, ‘This is amazing.’”
The Ainsley McGregor Mysteries star noted that the full-circle moment has been emotionally charged.
“I’m crying because I just got really self-conscious of my voice because that’s what you’re listening to. But I have a podcast and we’re sharing Jesus,” Cameron Bure concluded. “And that’s what my heart is. My heart is just to bring people one step closer to Jesus.”
