Charisma Carpenter isn’t defending her Buffy the Vampire Slayer character’s mean spirit!
On Thursday, Jan.16, the actress, 54, shared on TikTok her response to a fan’s theory that Cordelia Chase was a “better friend” to Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) than the Scooby Gang throughout the supernatural drama series.
During seasons one to three, Cordelia and Buffy were considered frenemies as she made snide remarks about her and the Scooby Gang – which included Xander Harris (Nicholas Brendon) and Willow Rosenberg (Alyson Hannigan). Cordelia continued to throw insults at the group even after joining their efforts to fight supernatural entities, as guided by Buffy’s mentor Rupert Giles (Anthony Head).
“Ooh this is such an unpopular take,” Carpenter said, reacting to the theory on TikTok. “This is going to cause some controversy. You really think so, you really think Cordelia was a better friend to Buffy than the Scoobies?” she asked.
“Holy s—, I’m going to need a bullet point dissertation on all the ways you can prove that to be true. Get busy, I need to know,” she continued. “Tell me in the comments immediately.
“Immediately. You got to tell me all the ways that you can prove that Cordy was a better friend to Buffy than her Scooby Gang,” she added. “Also, was Cordy a Scooby, a reluctant Scooby, a Scooby nonetheless? Give it to me in the comments. I need to know.”

Carpenter starred as Cordelia Chase in Buffy the Vampire Slayer which ran from 1997 to 2003, as well as the spin-off series Angel, which ran from 1999 to 2004.
And while Buffy and Cordelia had brief moments of friendliness and respect, they were often at-odds, whether it be related to homecoming court, boys’ attention or even the attention of Buffy’s longtime love Angel (David Borenaz).
Despite this, responses to the TikTok video agreed with the commenter that Cordelia was a better friend to Buffy than the Scooby Gang.
“Growing up is realizing this is absolutely true!” one person wrote. “Cordy saw Buffy as Buffy 1st, the Slayer 2nd. The Scoobies saw her as the Slayer and then as Buffy – and they always turned on B when things went wrong.”
“Having recently rewatched this back. Yes. Cordy and Tara were better friends than Willow and Xander,” another said.
“100000% she was honest & upfront with her never turned her down, always gave her real advice, & by season 2 was full on Scooby. She was/is my fav for many reasons,” a third commented.
