Last week Brooklyn Beckham released a scathing statement about his estrangement from his famous parents, which put his wedding squarely at the heart of the rift.
But his wedding planner tells Page Six heâs âsurprisedâ by the rancor over the big day.
Beckham railed about everything from mom Victoria âhijackingâ his first dance with bride Nicola Peltz to Victoria cancelling plans to have her atalier make Peltzâs dress, to his parents pressuring him to âsign away the right to my nameâ before the nups.
But celebrity wedding guru Preston Bailey â whoâs orchestrated over-the-top âI dosâ for Donald and Melania Trump, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, and tech billionaire Sean Parker â tells us that, if there was tension behind the scenes, youâd never know it in the run-up to the 2022 event.
âIt surprises me that he is taking this stand against his parents,â Bailey tells Page Six. âThatâs not the Brooklyn I met as far as him being this nice, gentle guy. . . He was just a nice, regular person who would say hello and chit chat.â
âI can tell you about my experience with Brooklyn,â he said. âWhile we were planning, clearly as far as the details for the design, he was very much involved. I have always thought of him as a gentle, decent guy. There was never any tension.â
Meanwhile, thereâs been chatter that Peltz is controlling in relationships â but Bailey says thatâs not what he saw.
âI donât remember her being bossy. I remember a lot of affection between them,â he told us.
âWhatever design was done was presented to Nicola, but it was important for her to have Brooklyn approve it,â Bailey said. âShe wasnât going to do anything without his approval.âÂ
Bailey â who who has also worked with Oprah Winfrey, Mariah Carey, Uma Thurman and Michael Douglas, among others â worked with the couple over Zoom or at the Peltzâs family home in Palm Beach and did not have contact with the heads of the Beckham family.
He was hired in April 2021, but had to step away 11 months later because his schedule became overbooked.
Brooklyn said in his statement that he does ânot want to reconcileâ with his parents.
A source previously told Page Six that the Beckhams are worried for their son.
âAt this point, the Peltzes are running things,â the Hollywood source alleged, âand you have a family that is devastated, worried and concerned for their son, brother and grandson.â
Bailey also put together Brooklyn and Peltzâs engagement party.
He previously told Page Six that the Peltz family, âare lovely people.â âThese people are important to me,â he said, adding, âNicola was great.â
Peltzâs father Nelson sued his daughterâs second wedding planners over a $159,000 deposit after they were axed from the job. Nicole Braghin and Arianna Grijalba of Plan Design Events (PDE) claimed breach of contract in a countersuit.
They settled the lawsuits in September 2023. âThe parties believe that this contract dispute between Nelson Peltz and Plan Design should be resolved on the terms agreed. As part of the settlement, [Plan Design] will make a donation in the name of Nicola and Brooklyn to the CARE Ukraine Crisis Fund. [Plan Design] wishes Nicola and Brooklyn Peltz Beckham happiness and a fruitful life together,â Grijalba and Braghin told People in a statement.
Victoria and David have not publicly comment on the rift.
A source told People this week, âDavid and Victoria love Brooklyn and are afraid of losing their son. They would take him back in a minute.â Another source added, âThe Beckhams have no intention of reconciling with their son unless Nicola is out of the picture.â
A second source told the outlet, âThatâs not an ultimatum heâs going to cave on,â and claimed that Brooklyn âhas felt more support from his wife in these past three years than from his parents in his entire life.â
