Welcome to The Blueprint, where we break down the celebrity looks we want to wear right now and build them back up, piece by piece.
I have an Endless Love for trench coats, and now I’m clearing closet space for another thanks to Brooke Shields.
On January 6, the 59-year-old was seen all bundled up in New York City wearing a long white trench coat, which I was rather happy — no, ecstatic — to see. Why? The winter white hue was the reminder I needed that it’s A-okay not to wear a black jacket, which is the norm this time of year.
Her coat also had a belt, so it looked flattering and sculpted, and it was so stylish, I didn’t even care to question what her outfit looked like underneath. She also wore a pair of slouchy camel boots with a thick, winter-proof heel.
Other celebrities have recently strayed away from basic black coats, too: Kate Hudson, Jennifer Lopez, and Selena Gomez have worn fur styles, while Taylor Swift and Katie Holmes opted for soft trim details. As for winter whites, we’ve spotted Meghan Markle and Lopez in the lighter color palette.

Makkrom Double-Breasted Trench Coat with Belt
I spent a good chunk of my December in Chicago, and I wore my classic khaki trench coat way more than my jumbo puffer. (I also got a cropped version like Gwyneth Paltrow’s over the holidays!) I now see the versatility of a white one, and I think I’m pretty set on this one.
It has fun buckles on the wrists — a detail that mine are both lacking — while the belt is buckle-less unlike Shields, which one shopper said “makes it easier to cinch the waist.” It’s also made from a cotton-blend fabric, which I like more than polyester, and it comes in sizes S to XXL for more tailored or oversized fits.
Cicy Bell Belted Pea Trench Coat
And in case you needed a reminder, clothing is meant to fit you and your lifestyle — not the other way around. For example, I don’t go into the office, so I don’t need a coat that’s super dressy. But if you do, a pea coat like this one is another way to personalize the trend.
Since I’m pretty clumsy, I’ll often choose off-white or light beige styles, so if I spill a drip or two of coffee, it seems less noticeable.
Mysoft Knee-High Boots
It takes a lot for me to wear heels these days, and it’s usually a pair of block heels like these that you’d find me in. They’re as stable as they come since they cover more surface area on the ground — plus, Sarah Jessica Parker and Taylor Swift have given them a metaphorical thumbs up.
It’s hard to tell just how tall Shields’ boots were, but one thing is clear: They were not ankle boots. TL;DR: Taller pairs are what you want in the winter. These are up 38 percent off and have a soft suede-like fabric. And according to one five-star reviewer, “The slouchy look and pointed toe add a chic, western vibe that complements dresses and jeans alike.”
