Brittany Snow admitted she was “really upset” after a Hunting Wives scene involving her character was cut.

Snow, 39, shared during the Tuesday, October 28, episode of the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast that the deleted scene offered viewers more context into Sophie O’Neil, her character on the Netflix drama that follows a murder investigation in Texas.

“I’m not in it [the show] as much as … a lot of my part got cut,” she began before detailing the missing scene. “There was a scene in Hunting Wives that I was really upset got cut because it sort of made sense why my behavior was so weird on the show. There’s a scene I read in episode 8 where she [Sophie] has this complete panic attack, breakdown … and she starts hitting herself and hitting her hand on the steering wheel and crying and screams.”

Snow continued, “Then she goes right into stoicism and just becomes completely void and gets out of the car. I remember thinking, ‘Oh, that’s how she reacts to problems, she’s become so used to being a mother and a woman that will only have her breakdowns in her car.’ So, I thought, ‘Well, that’s how I’m going to play her character.’”

The Hunting Wives took a lot of inspiration from May Cobb’s novel — but there were also some surprising changes. Netflix released the first season in July 2025, which followed Sophie (Brittany Snow) after she relocated from Boston to an East Texas town. Sophie ultimately found herself drawn to prominent socialite Margo (Malin Åkerman) and […]

She concluded that “when you take that scene out, it just looks like I’m completely…” before trailing off in laughter. “I loved that scene. I care about the fact that [Sophie] had coping mechanisms that I wanted to work into the character.”

Snow, whose character moves to the fictional town of Maple Brook where she befriends a group of wealthy socialites, noted during the interview that she understood why some scenes wind up being omitted before an episode is finalized.

“I know that it was because I’m a siloed story [and] it really needs to be about the actual case and what happened,” Snow said, reiterating how much she enjoys working on the show. “I was just so grateful to be a part of it. I mean, truly, it’s a show that I would watch and so that’s always a marking of something I want to do.”

Snow added that she aired her concerns over the cut scene to the show’s creator and writer, Rebecca Cutter, who assured her the decision was made after some consideration. “They said the episode was too long. But they promised me, in season 2, it will make more sense,” Snow told host Amanda Hirsch. (It was revealed during season 1 that Sophie had a history of DUIs, including one fatal accident, before moving to Texas with her husband and son.)

During the podcast, Snow also expressed her gratitude to costar Malin Akerman who she said made her comfortable while filming the pair’s sex scenes. “With Malin and I, we were constantly like, ‘Are you OK? Can I put my hand here?’ It was just so nice and so different,” Snow revealed. “We ate too many mints. I had an entire tub. It was people pleasing, too. And she was like, ‘Girl, I don’t care.’”

Inspired by May Cobb‘s book of the same name, The Hunting Wives season 1 was an eight-part series that premiered in July. The show was originally filmed for Starz before Lionsgate Television acquired rights (and Netflix licensed U.S. rights to the series for a year). The change of hands resulted in increased NSFW sex scenes than the show’s stars originally expected — not that they minded at all.

“It is very unfortunately rare to see women [having sex on screen at 40]. There is a stigma in Hollywood that once you reach 40, you are no longer seen as a sexual being, which is completely false,” Snow said during the interview. “I love that our show brought new light to that. You don’t stop having sex when you are 40.”

The Hunting Wives is available to stream on Netflix.
