Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are experiencing this fall’s box office phenomenon!
On Tuesday, Dec. 3, Reynolds, 48, and his wife Lively, 37, attended a special screening of Wicked: Part One at Metrograph in New York City, where they posed for photos with the movie’s lead actors Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
Lively wore a white suit jacket over a matching white shirt and light-washed blue jeans to the screening, complete with red shoes that resembled Dorothy’s ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz, while Reynolds opted for an all-beige look as the couple stood between Wicked stars Erivo, 37, and Grande, 31.
The meeting represented significant success at the box office between the group of four. Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine is the second highest-grossing film of 2024 in North America, while Wicked has already reached the No. 6 spot fewer than two weeks after its Nov. 22 release. Meanwhile, It Ends with Us, the Colleen Hoover romance novel adaptation that Lively starred in and produced is also on the list of this year’s film release successes, checking in at No. 13 in 2024 domestic box office rankings as of Wednesday, Dec. 4.
Reynolds and Lively, who share four children under 10, have kept things low-key since they finished promoting each of their summer hits. They celebrated Reynolds’ birthday in October by stepping out to see & Juliet on Broadway and traveled to New Orleans to see their friend Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour stop later that same month, but neither actor has any upcoming movie releases in the next few months.

When he appeared on Variety‘s Awards Circuit podcast on Nov. 7, Reynolds himself said that he is spending the upcoming year writing a new movie for himself and his Deadpool & Wolverine costar Hugh Jackman to make with their director Shawn Levy “that is not Marvel, and that’s kind of it.” The actor was responding to a question regarding whether he was in conversations to host the 2025 Academy Awards, at which Wicked: Part One appears to be primed for awards consideration. (The Oscars announced on Nov. 15 that Conan O’Brien will host this year’s show.)
“I have four kids, and I actually — spoiler alert — love my kids,” Reynolds told Variety then of dedicating time to his family after the lengthy process it took to put Deadpool & Wolverine into the world. “And I love seeing them and I love them seeing me, so this year is kind of devoted, the next 12 months are just going to be with my kids.”
Wicked: Part One is in theaters now, with its second part set to release Nov. 21, 2025.
