Bill Maher believes his friendship with Jimmy Kimmel is over for good.
While interviewing Adam Carolla on Mondayâs episode of his âClub Randomâ podcast, Maher revealed that heâs had a falling out with Kimmel following comments he made about the latterâs wife, Molly McNearney.
âJimmy Kimmel, you know, heâs very mad at me and I know youâre close to him,â Maher told Carolla, who co-hosted the Comedy Central series âThe Man Showâ with Kimmel from 1999 to 2004.
âI hope you tell him that Iâm sorry that it got bent out of shape,â Maher, 70, continued. âI donât think I did anything wrong. We can have disagreements. I mean, you and I donât agree on everything, look at this clash now, and yet weâre cool.â
The âReal Timeâ host noted that while Kimmel, a staunch liberal, is âone of the nicest guysâ he knows, he gets frustrated with Kimmelâs political takes.
âThis is the difference between the right and the left. It bugs me so much,â Maher explained. âMy tribe is supposed to be the left, but these are the people who just canât talk to you unless youâre exactly there, whereas the Republicans, they always fâing come to my show.â
âI donât just buy into the left-wing bullsât,â Maher went on, âand I never stop making fun of the right-wing bullsât at all! And like, if thatâs not good enough for you, then I think youâre the aâhole, and I donât think Jimmy is an aâhole.â
Maher added that the âJimmy Kimmel Live!â host âis a great guy, and it bugs me that, you know, because of what the latest thing was, that, you know, we may never talk again.â
âYou guys should be thick as thieves and on the same page,â Carolla, 61, told Maher.
Page Six has reached out to Kimmelâs rep for comment.
In November, Maher called out Kimmelâs wife for cutting ties with family members who voted for Donald Trump.
âIt hurts me so much because of the personal relationship I now have where my husband is out there fighting this man,â McNearney, 47, said when she joined Kimmel on the âWe Can Do Hard Thingsâ podcast.
âTo me, them voting for Trump is them not voting for my husband and me and our family,â she added. âAnd I, unfortunately, have kind of lost relationships with people in my family because of it.â
While reacting to McNearneyâs comments on his HBO talk show at the time, Maher said, âShe says sheâs lost relationships with relatives because she wrote them an email before the election with ten reasons why they shouldnât vote for Trump, and some still didnât obey, so you know. Ultimatums. Ten reasons? I can think of 100.â
âBut I would never present it to someone as an ultimatum,â Maher continued. âUltimatums donât make people rethink their politics. They make them rethink you.â
Then, in December, Maher revealed on his âClub Randomâ podcast that Kimmel was upset with him for criticizing his wife.
âI was as kid-gloved as I could,â Maher stated. âAnd I see theyâre mad at me. Uh, Iâm sorry. I mean, I was being, again, as respectful as I could, but I donât agree with that point of view. And since she went public with it, it wasnât out of school for me to go public with it. I love Jimmy. Iâve always have. I donât know him that well, but heâs a great guy. I hope weâre friends forever, but I donât know.â
Kimmel is notoriously critical of Trump, 79, and Republicans on his late-night show.
In September, Kimmel was suspended by Disney for comments he made about Charlie Kirkâs assassination. He returned to the air several days later.
