Blue Ivy Carter takes after her mom, Beyoncé, in more ways than one.
The 12-year-old not only has some serious performing skills but, according to Beyoncé’s go-to stylist Shiona Turini, is also a boss-in-the-making. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar released on Monday, Dec. 30, Turini said that the young star “makes the final choice” when it comes to her stage looks.
The mother-daughter duo made a splash throughout Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour in 2023, where Blue Ivy proved her dancing chops alongside her mom. On Christmas Day, Blue Ivy appeared in her mom’s halftime show performance at the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens game. The 13-minute spectacle aired live on Netflix on Dec. 25 and is now streaming on the platform.
For the marathon set, which fans have deemed the “Beyoncé Bowl,” the Grammy winner performed tracks from her genre-bending country album Cowboy Carter and was accompanied by a massive ensemble — including Blue Ivy — who were all decked out in white outfits.
“When Bey said she wanted everyone in white, I knew we had to look at different textures, different patterns, different accents—whether it was fringe, suede, crystals, American flags,” Turini told Harper’s Bazaar of the costumes. “You really have to lean into the elements that are going to make each section feel different so it doesn’t feel repetitive.”

She continued: “But for Blue, you can play around with her options because she will be different from anyone else, no matter what.”
The stylist explained that she wanted the mother and daughter to “have some sort of connection in their costumes, so we had the custom rodeo-style belts that the brand Frolov made for us in addition to Blue’s look.”

“With Blue, we get to have a lot of fun because it’s just one independent special costume, and ultimately she makes the final choice,” Turini added. “I was happy that she chose that, and I think she looked great.”
Blue appeared toward the end of the halftime show as Beyoncé performed her hit song “Texas Hold ‘Em.” The superstar referenced her daughter in a discreet lyric change when she sang: “Then spin me in the middle, Blue, I can’t read your mind.” The mother-daughter duo did an elaborate line dance before Beyoncé floated up on a platform, which had a banner that read “BANG.”
