Benny Blanco Shares Inside Details of Selena Gomez’s 2025 Oscars Gown, Including Its Shocking Weight

Benny Blanco thinks women deserve “a medal of honor” after seeing what fiancée Selena Gomez went through while getting ready to attend the 2025 Oscars.

The 32-year-old actress and pop star wowed on the red carpet while attending the March 2 awards ceremony in a custom evening gown by Ralph Lauren. Her look was created by a team of 12 artisans and featured “more than 16,000 drops of glass.”

While on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon alongside Gomez on Thursday, March 20, Blanco revealed those “drops of glass” were pretty heavy. In fact, the dress weighed a staggering 35 lbs.!

“Getting her there was so hard,” admitted the musician, 37. “She’s carrying a 35-lb. dress, and her heels are eight inches high. And then she has to stand on a bus while we’re moving because she can’t sit down.”

He added that a glam team was “sewing” Gomez “into the dress” as they headed to the awards ceremony, which was hosted at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California.

In comparison to the Only Murders in the Building actress, Blanco joked that he “looked like a slob.”

Gomez attended the Oscars for the first time to promote her movie Emilia Pérez, which amassed an impressive 13 nominations and won two trophies: Best Original Song, for “El Mal,” and Best Supporting Actress, for Zoe Saldaña.

During the ceremony, she took the stage alongside Samuel L. Jackson to present the awards for Best Documentary Short Film and Best Documentary Feature. Blanco stayed by Gomez’s side in the audience throughout the evening.

Gomez and Blanco have been an item since June 2023, and announced their engagement in December 2024.

While talking to host Jimmy Fallon on Thursday’s episode of The Tonight Show, Blanco revealed that Gomez “almost didn’t even come” to his surprise proposal, after he’d told her they were heading to a photo shoot to preserve the mystery.

“She was like, ‘I really don’t feel that well. I think I’m just going to stay home today. Can’t we just make up the shoot another day?’ ” the music producer recalled. “And I was like, ‘Uhh … ’ ”

The couple appeared on the show to promote their new joint album I Said I Love You First, which premieres Friday, March 21.
