Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez have shared new details on what went into designing the bride-to-be’s engagement ring.
The couple opened up to Interview magazine on the sparkler in their first joint interview, which comes two months after they announced their engagement on Instagram on Dec. 11, 2024.
Blanco, 36, proposed to Gomez, 32, with a rock boasting a dazzling marquise diamond set on an eternity band, which many fans believed to be a nod to the latter’s song “Good for You,” in which she sings, “I’m a marquise diamond.”
“Ever since the ‘Good for You’ days — that was, gosh, so many years ago — that’s the diamond I’ve always dreamed of,” Gomez confirmed.
“I just tried not to f— up. That’s all I did,” Blanco added.
In talking about the lead-up to the big moment, Gomez admitted that she wasn’t “anal” about what her ring looked like. However, her music producer fiancé admitted that she switched gears at one point.
“She showed me designs and I would always throw little hints. I’d be like, ‘Yeah, but if I ever made one, would you want it like this?’ And then she changed her mind halfway through.”
Blanco added that the original ring featured “huge baguettes” on the side that were ultimately removed because Gomez didn’t “want something that big.”
However, the gemstones aren’t going to waste. “We’re going to make earrings for her. She basically has three wedding rings,” said Blanco.

Blanco and Gomez, who confirmed the their relationship in December 2023, also talked about how they like to plan their date-night looks.
“We love getting dressed up for a date,” he said. “We get dressed up, we go out, get fancy martinis. We love a theme.”

But while they love coordinating, they will never style each other (though it depends on the mood of their date night).
“Actually, sometimes. I’ll just ask him to pick me something out. And it’s usually a combination of his clothes and my clothes,” Gomez said, adding: “Never for an actual date. I don’t care if he hates my outfit, I’m going to wear what I want to wear.”
Up next, Blanco and Gomez are releasing a new album called I Said I Love You First, which marks their first project together as a couple. News of the record, which will debut on March 21, was announced a day before Valentine’s Day.
