A man walked out of Madison Square Garden on Friday night with a new car, $1,000 in his pocket — and perhaps the greatest prize of all: a priceless moment with Ben Stiller!
During the New York Knicks’ Jan. 17 matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves, one Knicks fan ended the night as the biggest winner in the arena as he made a half-court shot and celebrated with a congratulatory hug from Stiller, 59.
In a video shared on the Knicks’ social media accounts, and later on House of Highlights’ YouTube channel, the man took part in the Kia Skills Challenge, which essentially meant he had 40 seconds to make four different shots on the court before getting one attempt at a half-court shot for a new car.
The man quickly made his first four shots — which included a layup, a shot from the right side of the foul line, a shot from the left side and a three pointer — all of which earned him a total of $1,000.
His next task was making a bucket from the half-court line in order to win a 2025 Kia Telluride X-Line. He did just that, and in one shot.
As the arena erupted in applause, and as multiple people on the court surrounded the Knicks fan, he set his sights on Stiller, who was sitting courtside and gave him a double high-five and a quick hug. Stiller was in attendance at the game alongside Severance‘s Adam Scott, Zach Cherry and Britt Lower.
“Yes. He hugged @benstiller,” the Knicks organization commented on an Instagram post of the celebratory moment.
While the Severance crew spent some time together enjoying a night of basketball — despite the Knicks losing 116-99 — Stiller, one of the show’s directors and executive producers, and his cast explained to PEOPLE earlier this month how they bond off screen in other ways.
As Stiller explained, he and the cast shot season 2 in 186 days and had “a lot of moments together.”
“When we went to shoot episode four on location in the mountains, that was fun,” the actor recalled. “We had a wrap party for that episode at a roller rink. That was awesome.”
“And yeah, I remember we all watched the eclipse together. The solar eclipse,” he added. “I have pictures of us all going outside of the stage in the Bronx there to look at that.”
Lower, who plays Helly Riggs in the Apple TV+ series, added that the crew will “pontificate a lot.” “We play a lot of childlike games that have rules that change rapidly,” the actress, 39, told PEOPLE. “It’s a very sterile environment, and I think we find a lot of levity from just goofing around together.”
