Ben Falcone lives by the mantra “happy wife, happy life” — especially when it comes to facial hair.
During a recent interview with The Julia Cunningham Show, the comedian and filmmaker, 51, told Julia Cunningham that his wife, actress Melissa McCarthy, 54, is definitely not a fan of a clean shaven face.
“It’s a pretty marked difference,” the comedian said about his look minus the mustache before continuing. “But also Melissa … let’s just say nicely she does not enjoy the look of my face unadorned with hair.”
“She no longer likes my face,” Falcone told Cunningham, letting out a laugh.
The Superintelligence director and producer said it doesn’t bother his wife of 19 years that his facial hair is changing colors.
“She likes it now with a whole beard even though my beard is going gray, but now it’s going gray like shock white.”
Falcone confessed he’s looking a bit older than he actually is, so he’s opted for shaving, to which his Bridesmaids actress wife hesitantly responds, “It’s fine, no you look good. No, it’s fine.”
The God’s Favorite Idiot creator admitted that he feels like a “hot new guy” without facial hair.
Falcone and McCarthy met in the ‘90s while in school, but their love story didn’t officially begin until they joined the same comedy class in Los Angeles in 1998. In 2005, the couple tied the knot and have become unstoppable in their performances together on the big and small screens.
Together, the couple share two teenagers, Vivian, 17, and Georgette, 15. In her cover story interview with PEOPLE in April 2023, The Little Mermaid actress discussed their close-knit family saying she doesn’t even allow herself to think about becoming an empty nester.
“Nope, because it’s never going to happen,” McCarthy said jokingly. “One of my daughters was talking about maybe going to school in Scotland. And literally Ben’s like, ‘Your lip’s twitching.’ ”
During the start of the 2025 awards season, Falcone and McCarthy made a splashing appearance together at the Golden Globes held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.
McCarthy brought a touch of spring to the red carpet in her custom hot pink Christian Siriano flared jumpsuit, while Falcone looked dapper in a chocolate brown suit.
Falcone showed support for his wife who was nominated for a Golden Globe for Can You Ever Forgive Me? and Spy in 2019 and 2016 respectively, attended the 82nd annual ceremony as a presenter. The hit show, Only Murders in the Building, in which she guest starred as Doreen, was also nominated for best television series musical or comedy.

Although the couple spends their fair share of time in the limelight, they still enjoy the simplicity of a date night at home.
“A lot of the times I’ll cook something,” Falcone told PEOPLE in 2024. “I’ll make us a special dinner — a steak of some sort.”
McCarthy endorsed her husband’s culinary skills with two enthusiastic thumbs up. “He makes a crazy delicious steak. It really is. [It’s] difficult now to order out ’cause it’s so good. And he makes really, really delicious smash burgers.”
