ITV has announced that a new series of Dalziel and Pascoe, the beloved 90s British detective drama starring Colin Buchanan and Warren Clarke, is getting a modern revamp – and we can’t wait for this one to air.

Stepping into the iconic duo’s shoes are Kerry Godliman (Trigger Point) and Nina Singh (Art Detectives) in what ITV has dubbed “a fresh and contemporary reimagining” of the legacy series based on the books by Reginald Hill.

What to expect from ITV’s Dalziel and Pascoe

The upcoming series centres on the relationship between seasoned Detective Inspector Andrea Dalziel and Detective Sergeant Paige Pascoe, a newly qualified, by-the-book perfectionist.

The ITV synopsis continues: “Despite their clashing methods, Dalziel and Pascoe work together to form a formidable partnership that is underscored by humour, heart and humanity.”

Who stars in the new series of Dalziel and Pascoe?

At the moment, only Kerry Godliman (Trigger Point, Spinal Tap: The End Continues, Whitstable Pearl, After Life, Save Me) and Nina Singh (Art Detectives, Virdee) have been announced as Andrea and Paige respectively.

What have the cast said about Dalziel and Pascoe?

Speaking about her new leading role, comedian and actress Kerry said: “I’m so chuffed to be playing the assertively charming Detective Inspector Andrea Dalziel. It’s a juicy role as she’s such an interesting personality – accomplished at her job, warm, but also direct to the point of being abrasive.

“Weary and warm hearted. Lots to get my teeth into! I’m looking forward to working with the team at West Road Pictures, ITV and BritBox as we reimagine Dalziel and Pascoe to a new audience.”

Meanwhile, Nina added: “It’s an absolute honour to be playing Pascoe to Kerry Godliman’s Dalziel. I find Kerry hilarious, so I know at times I’ll struggle not to be laughing.

“Colette Kane and the writing team have incorporated humour so well into the scripts at the same time as keeping you constantly guessing what’ll happen next – in true Dalziel and Pascoe form.”

What happened to the original Dalziel and Pascoe stars?

With news of the reboot, many viewers will be wondering what happened to its previous stars Warren Clarke and Colin Buchanan.

After his role as Detective Superintendent Andy Dalziel, Warren, who was previously known for his role in Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange, went on to star in many other hit shows, including Midsomer Murders, Call the Midwife and Poldark.

Warren played Charles Poldark, the uncle of the show’s protagonist Ross (Aidan Turner). His last scene as an actor was on the series, as he was ill during his final days of filming and sadly passed away a few weeks later.

For Colin, his time on Dalziel and Pascoe proved enough for him in the acting world and he took a sabbatical after production wrapped.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail in 2014, he explained: “When Dalziel and Pascoe finished, I was offered a few things straight away but I turned them down because I was exhausted, frankly. In the later years we were expected to do more and more with less and less money and time. In the end it became impossible to keep up the quality. We felt we were just filling screen time rather than doing something worthwhile.”

Since his role as Detective Inspector Peter Pascoe, he has made appearances in shows including Casualty, Murdoch Mysteries and The Last Witness, which is his last listed project on IMDb from 2018.

Dalziel and Pascoe will begin filming in the spring of 2026 in the North of England. It will air on ITV and STV and be available for streaming on ITVX and STV Player.
