Sofia Carson came to play (dress up!) at her PEOPLE StyleWatch shoot.

Shot by Jeremy Choh in West Hollywood, Calif., the singer-actress, 31, poses in a series of holiday-party ready ensembles styled by Sonja Christensen.

“Knowing Sofia’s passion for Old Hollywood glamour, I approached the shoot with an appreciation for her classic aesthetic,” Christensen tells PEOPLE. “Sofia gravitates toward iconic silhouettes and polished designs, so I maintained that vibe but infused it with a modern edge — subtle twists that felt fresh but still in line with her timeless style.”

The stylist adds that the inspiration for the shoot was “rooted in a sense of minimal elegance, perfect for the holiday season.”

“I wanted the looks to feel celebratory yet timeless, each outfit needed to evoke sophistication while being effortless enough for Sofia to embody her signature charm,” Christensen explains.

While she notes there were so many “stunning” pieces to choose from on set, the Monique Lhuillier velvet dress — which the stylist teamed with elegant gloves and sleek Le Silla pumps — stood out the most.

“It was such a moment,” she says. “The dress had this graceful movement, and the accessories elevated it into something truly magical.”

Sofia, Christensen recalls, was “really excited” by the cozy faux fur coat by Michael Kors. “The faux fur added a soft drama that felt so festive and luxurious,” she says.

The lush clothes and seasonal tones also inspired Carson’s glam.

“There is nothing more wonderful when a look all comes together, however seasonal, to create something modern yet timeless,” makeup artist Karan Mitchell shares.

To create a flawless base, the makeup artist used Nars Radiant Tinted Moisturizer in the shade Finland and added subtle glow with Hourglass Ambient Light highlighter. For a festive pop of color, Mitchell used Tower 28 OneLiner Lip Liner in the shade Work of Art, a pinky taupe, before combining two lipstick shades — Milani Color Statement Matte Lipstick in Matte Confident (a brick red) and Matte Tender (a coral pink). Finally, Carson’s lashes were coated with L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Mascara in black.
