Avril Lavigne rocks skintight leather for first public appearance in nearly a year

Avril Lavigne delighted fans with a rare appearance after nearly a year away from the spotlight.

The Canadian pop-punk icon, who celebrated her 42nd birthday on September 27, attended Paris Hilton’s star-studded end of summer party, hosted by her new beauty brand Parivie.

The singer was photographed with Paris and her sister Nicky Hilton, dressed in black skintight leather pants, paired with an oversized black sweater with gold safety pin appliqués.

She completed her look with pink sneakers and a Vans pink leopard-print baseball cap, with her golden locks falling down nearly to her hip.

Others at the party include Chappell Roan, Demi Lovato, Vanessa Hudgens, Lele Pons, Diplo, Tana Mongeau, Lizzo, and more. “Y2K at Slivington Manor,” Paris captioned her post on Instagram. “End of summer rager with some of my favorite people.”

Fans instantly dubbed the gathering “iconic,” to borrow one of Paris’ own signature phrases, with one even gushing: “So glad to see you around @avrillavigne.” The Hilton heiress commented in response: “She is the absolute best.”

For the “Complicated” singer’s birthday on Sunday, Paris took to her Instagram page with a snap from the party, writing alongside it: “Happy Birthday @avrillavigne. So much fun Sliving with you last night. Love you!”

Where is Avril Lavigne now?

Over the past year, Avril has remained lowkey when it comes to both her public appearances and her musical output. Her social media presence has similarly reflected the same.

Her last post on Instagram was in October, when she performed at the When We Were Young Festival with Simple Plan on the heels of their joint Greatest Hits tour.

While she’s been more active on X, her most recent posts have centered around merchandise promotion, with her last personal post being in November, when she shared a snippet of herself backstage at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2025 Induction Ceremony, where she performed onstage with Cyndi Lauper.

Reportedly, though, guests like Simone Biles and Pat McAfee claimed that Avril was also at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s star-studded wedding back in July, where she even performed her hit “Sk8er Boi,” although Avril herself hasn’t confirmed the news.

Speaking of music, the singer was last on stage when she embarked on her Greatest Hits tour, which began in May 2024 and ended in June 2025. Her website lists no upcoming shows.

That compilation album was her most recent LP release, with 2025 also including the notable release of singles “Young & Dumb” featuring Simple Plan, and the Billy Idol song “77,” on which she featured. She also featured on the Yellowcard song “You Broke Me Too” in 2025.

In 2025, Avril also recorded a cover of Alanis Morissette’s hit “Ironic” for the soundtrack of the Canadian coming of age romantic comedy Mile End Kicks. The film, and the cover itself, was released earlier this year to positive reception.
