Ashton Kutcher claimed during his days as a model, he was fired by Gucci for being overweight.
In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, âThe Beautyâ star recalled booking a campaign with the luxury design house â run by Tom Ford at the time â and jetting to Italy for the accompanying shoot.
âAnd I showed up, I flew to Italy for the runway show, and he puts me in, like, a pink Speedo,â the âThat â70s Showâ alum told the outlet, noting that he weighed âexactlyâ 178 pounds at the time.
Ford, he recalled, âwas like, âHeâs too fat.â And then I got fired.â
Kutcher, now 47, confessed that he and the iconic designer look back on the incident with amusement.
âI laugh with him about it now, and heâs like, âYou were too fat.â I was like, âDude, I was 178 lbs! Like, what are you talking about?ââ Kutcher laughed.
He then went on to defend Fordâs decision to cut him from the fashion campaign.
âHe had a specific thing that he wanted, that he wanted to see, in his eye was the right thing,â the actor explained.
âIt didnât mean I was less, but it just meant that I wasnât that for him for that moment.â
A rep for Gucci did not immediately return Page Sixâs request for comment.
Kutcher, who noted that he began modeling around the age of 19, also explained that even âsome of the most beautiful people in the worldâ experience insecurity.
âWhat I realized really quickly was that everybody had an insecurity,â he said of working as a professional model.
âEverybody. If you look in the mirror long enough, youâll find something you donât like, or that you think could be better, or that you think could be different.â
Last year, Kutcher also admitted that his model looks had sometimes actually hurt his acting career.
âThere are roles that Iâve gotten because of the way I look and there are roles that I havenât gotten because of the way I look,â he said during a New York Comic Con panel in October. âSometimes itâs frustrating.â
âThe Beautyâ â which is set to drop on FX on Jan. 21 â revolves around an STD that causes aesthetic improvements, but ultimately proves lethal, begging the question of what one might do to achieve physical perfection.
While addressing the showâs potential similarities to Demi Mooreâs âThe Substance,â Kutcher praised his ex-wifeâs performance in the highly acclaimed body horror movie.
âI mean, one, Demiâs performance in âThe Substance,â â obviously she got extraordinary accolades,â he noted, referencing Mooreâs Oscar nomination for the role.
âIâm so proud of her, she killed it.â
