Anne Hathaway got candid about how she was able to overcome her insecurities and practice self-love, particularly after giving birth to her two kids, Jonathan and Jack.

The 43-year-old, who stars in the highly-anticipated Devil Wears Prada sequel, spoke to Harper’s Bazaar about the one trick she uses to feel empowered and confident in her body.

“Some days you look in the mirror, and you’re just like, ‘Not bad.’ And some days you look in the mirror, and you’re like, ‘What?'” she told the publication.

Her foolproof method to instantly feel better is to put on the “aspiration swimsuit” that she usually wears on a “good day”, rather than the bathing suit “that’s got you no matter what”.

“I’m ready to have this great day with my family. And I am going to be in front of strangers, and people have phones. And all of the things. But my family is waiting for me. And I looked [at my body], and I just went, ‘What?’ And then I looked again and I said, ‘You are 43.’ And looking at a 43-year-old body, I was like, ‘Nice.'”

“When I was expecting to see something that I am not, I felt insecure. But when I actually looked at what it actually is, I was okay with it,” she continued. “I think you realize that worry should be reserved for the really big stuff.”

“In my 30s, I had to give up alcohol. I couldn’t do it anymore. I couldn’t lead the life that I wanted while drinking. And in my 40s, I’m finding I have to support myself differently nutritionally,” she told People in 2023. While filming The Devil Wears Prada 2, Anne was careful to ensure that the movie was portraying a healthy body type in the fashion industry.

Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar, Meryl Streep revealed that while filming at Milan Fashion Week, she and her co-star were “struck by how not only beautiful and young – everyone seems young to me – but alarmingly thin the models were.”

“I thought that all had been addressed years ago. Annie clocked it too,” Meryl continued. “And she made a beeline to the producers about it, securing promises that the models in the show that we were putting together for our film would not be so skeletal! She’s a stand-up girl.”

Meryl added that Anne was a consummate professional on the set, and even dealt with the crowds of people watching them film on the streets.

“Buses of fans turned up, and paparazzi swarmed and in one case kept jumping in front of the camera and the shot and got in a kerfuffle with [the] crew,” she recalled. “Annie kept her cool, but I was unnerved.” She and Meryl starred in the original film back in 2006, and reprised the roles of Andy Sachs and Miranda Priestly, respectively.
