Anne Hathaway appears to have taken style notes from Miranda Priestly as she channeled the iconic The Devil Wears Prada character for her latest high-fashion outing.
The 43-year-old actress attended Bulgari’s high jewelry gala in Italy on March 23 to celebrate the launch of the brand’s Eclettica collection.
Anne looked phenomenal in an elaborate red couture dress by Valentino that looked very similar to the red ball gown Miranda, played by Meryl Streep, wears in the upcoming The Devil Wears Prada sequel.
Both dresses feature voluminous skirts and floor-sweeping trains, but Anne’s designer number boasts a plunging neckline and flared sleeves that resemble a cape, while Miranda’s dress has an off-the-shoulder neckline and a cinched waist.
Anne also accessorized her dress with Bulgari’s Secret Garden necklace, centered on a 26.65-carat padparadscha sapphire and set among baguette cuts, onyx inlays, purple sapphires, and cabochon emeralds.
The necklace features in Bulgari’s new 160-piece Eclettica collection, spanning high jewelry, high-end watches, rare bags, and fragrances.
Anne was joined by fellow Bulgari ambassadors Priyanka Chopra-Jonas, Dua Lipa, Jake Gyllenhaal, Liu Yifei, and Kim Ji-won at the gala, held at the 17th-century estate Villa Arconati in Milan.
Meanwhile, fans of The Devil Wears Prada don’t have long to wait for the sequel as it’s scheduled to be released on May 1.
Anne returns as Andrea ‘Andy’ Sachs alongside Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton and Meryl Streep as the fearsome editor of Runway magazine, Miranda Priestly.
Stanley Tucci, Runway’s art director Nigel Kipling, will also return for the sequel, alongside Tracie Thoms as Andie’s best friend, Lily, and Tibor Feldman as Elias-Clark chairman Irv Ravitz.
There will be some new faces joining the lineup, too, including Kenneth Branagh as Miranda’s new husband and Patrick Brammall, who will be Andy’s latest love interest.
Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, and Pauline Chalamet are also set to appear in the film, according to Variety.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 reportedly follows Miranda “as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and as she faces off against Emily’s character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Miranda desperately needs.”
The Devil Wears Prada grossed $326 million at the worldwide box office and was nominated for two Academy Awards – for Meryl as Best Actress and Patricia Field‘s Costume Design.
Anne is excited to reprise her role and confirmed her return by sharing a clip of herself on TikTok sporting that iconic cerulean blue sweater while brushing her teeth. She teasingly captioned the video: “Heading to werk #dwp2.”
The original film was based on Lauren Weisberger’s book of the same name, which was published in 2003 and spent six months on the New York Times bestseller list.
The character of Miranda is said to be inspired by Vogue’s Anna Wintour, whom Lauren previously worked for as a personal assistant.
Anna was later asked if she considered hr ex-assistant’s novel as a “breach of trust” during an appearance on CNN, and she replied: “Well… I think that she brought attention to fashion in a way that, you know, you can look at it in a negative way or a positive way.
“I choose to look at it in a positive way. In some ways, I think I should be grateful to her.”
