Angelina Jolie is celebrating her latest accomplishment with her daughter, Zahara Jolie-Pitt, by her side.

On Friday, Jan. 3, the mother-daughter duo attended the Palm Springs International Film Awards at the Palm Springs Convention Center, where Jolie is an honoree.

The Palm Springs International Film Festival previously announced in November that the actress, 49, would be honored with the Desert Palm Achievement Award for her performance as the titular opera singer Maria Callas in the Netflix biopic Maria. Jolie’s godmother, Jacqueline Bisset, also walked the red carpet and will present Jolie with her award.

“Maria presents the iconic Angelina Jolie in the role of a lifetime as she embodies Maria Callas, the world-renowned opera legend. Jolie’s extraordinary portrayal captures the heart and complexity of an artist whose life was as captivating as her music,” said Festival Chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi in a statement when the announcement was made.

“In honor of her mesmerizing transformation into this groundbreaking yet tragic figure, we are thrilled to present Angelina Jolie with the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress,” his statement continued.

To commemorate the occasion, Jolie wore a black, floor-length halter gown made up of a silk material that gorgeously hung from her body as she posed on the carpet with her 19-year-old daughter.

Jolie’s golden blonde locks flowed down her shoulders, and her new bangs were parted to the side. The movie star completed the look with dark eyeshadow and a pink lip.

Zahara opted to contrast her mom’s look by wearing a white A-line gown with lace detailing and white fabric flowing down one shoulder. Her hair was slicked back, and she wore light makeup.

Jolie attended the event hours after being spotted at the festival in an all-white blazer, pants, and nude heels.

The awards ceremony marks her first major event appearance since she and Brad Pitt, 61, reached a settlement in their divorce. In addition to Zahara, she and the actor share five other children: Maddox, 23 Pax, 21, Shiloh, 18, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 16.

A source close to Jolie told PEOPLE in July that she “seems very happy and content with her life.”

Maria is now streaming on Netflix. Jolie’s work in the film also earned her a nomination at the Golden Globe Awards, which will be held on Sunday, Jan. 5.
