One thing about Adam Sandler — he’s going to be comfortable.
On Sunday, Feb. 16, the comedian and actor, 58, flipped the script by turning up to the Saturday Night Live’s 50’s Anniversary Special in New York City in a traditional black tuxedo. Sandler typically prefers baggy shorts, Hawaiian shirts and hoodies, but decided to dress up for the special occasion.
“It’s a terrible feeling,” the star told Variety on the red carpet. “Al Franken saw me in a sweatshirt last night and he was like, ‘What are you doing?’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, I don’t wanna let Al down. So I put a tux on.”
On Friday, Feb. 14, however, Sandler kept things casual at the SNL50: The Homecoming Concert wearing a printed shirt, a dark jacket, light-colored pants and sneakers. His wife, Jackie, joined him on the red carpet and looked glamorous in a black plunging pantsuit.
While speaking with PEOPLE on the red carpet on Sunday, Amy Schumer took a moment to playfully roast Sandler for his attire.
“You look handsome,” she told the comedian, who was doing an interview next to her. “No, you look very handsome. Yeah, a tailor would have been … you know. Anyway.”

Sandler then leaned over to reply, “That means someone’s gotta touch me and I don’t like that.”
“He doesn’t like that, nobody touch him, okay?” Schumer joked back. “But, I mean, yeah, he has access to a tailor. He could have worked that out.”
Sandler, appeared on SNL from 1991 to 1995, performed onstage at the concert, where he was joined by fellow former cast members, as well as a variety of other stars.

During a 2023 appearance on the Drew Barrymore Show, Sandler shared the process behind selecting his signature colorful, baggy ensembles, a style that has been dubbed “Sandlercore.”
“I go into my closet, I got a bunch of t-shirts and shorts, kinda they’re all the same … I usually go t-shirt first … I just want to cover that quickly. I’m like what the hell, grab anything,” he joked. “Then I go with shorts and I throw them on. Sometimes they’ll be slightly too tight. I go let me take those off and get the triple-X shorts on.”
