Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes were waiting to finalize their respective divorces before announcing their romance — but their plans were foiled after their relationship was publicly exposed.
During Thursday’s episode of their “Amy & T.J.” podcast, Robach and Holmes revealed they admired how Tom Brady and Giselle Bündchen announced their split and were planning to do the same — until it was too late.
Brady, 47, and Bündchen, 44, revealed their marriage was over and already settled in October 2022 — one month before Robach and Holmes were spotted packing on the PDA despite being legally married to other people.
The former “GMA3” co-hosts noted that most people’s relationships are “long done” by the time they finally tell their “friends and family.”
“That was our plan,” Holmes said. “You know who did it well? Gisele and Tom Brady.”
Robach, 51, chimed in saying that “was the model [she] was trying to go or follow.”
“I was thinking to myself, ‘Before I announce it to everyone, including some of my friends, I want to have the divorce actually already be filed in the court so that the messiness is over any sort of tumult… I’m gonna deal with [it] personally, and then by the time I announce it, things are cool and calm, and we’re all good.’ And that was my goal.”
“That was their model and that was our goal,” Holmes, 47, added. “They announced, ‘We are breaking up.’ And then they said, ‘Oh, actually the divorce is final. It’s done.’”
Robach noted that “when you announce to people that you’re ‘breaking up,’ people usually wanna weigh in,” which she wanted to avoid.
“Once you already say, ‘Hey, guys, it’s a done deal,’ there’s no room for discussion,” she explained. “And I think by the time you get to that point, you’ve already made your mind up, and you don’t really want to hear what everyone else thinks about it. And so that makes a lot of sense to me.”
However, she and Holmes never got the chance to announce the end of their respective marriages on their own terms.
In November 2022, the co-workers were seen holding hands during a romantic getaway in upstate New York.
At the time, Robach was still married to Andrew Shue and Holmes was married to Marilee Fiebig.
However, they have vehemently denied allegations of infidelity, insisting they were “two consenting adults who were each separated” and “in the middle of divorces.”
While they reportedly both broke up with their spouses in August 2022, insiders later told Page Six that Fiebig was “blindsided” by her then-husband’s relationship with his co-anchor.
We were told the couple was separated but trying to “work things out,” leaving Fiebig “devastated.”
Holmes filed for divorce from Fiebig in December 2022 after 12 years of marriage. The exes share an 11-year-old daughter, Sabine.
Robach — who shares two daughters with her first husband Tim McIntosh — and the “Melrose Place” actor, for their part, quietly finalized their divorce in March 2023.
In a shock turn of events, Page Six exclusively revealed in December 2023 that Shue and Fiebig began dating after growing close amid the drama.
