Amanda Seyfriedā€™s best advice? If youā€™re going to have a wardrobe malfunction at an awards show, hope the person across from you is Glen Powell.

ā€œMy boobs fell out of my dress at the 2023 Critics Choice Awards,ā€ the 39-year-old actress shares with PEOPLE in this weekā€™s issue while discussing her lead role as Mickey in the new Peacock crime series Long Bright River.

Seyfried took home an award that year for her performance in The Dropout, but along with the trophy came an unexpected wardrobe mishap. ā€œI was wearing this amazing vintage dress. I made my stylist dress up in it before I went just for fun,ā€ she recalls of the Dior Haute Couture gown.

She adds, ā€œIt was kind of sewn together and it started truly falling apart, literally falling off of me on the red carpet, and I think there were even interviews where Iā€™m saying itā€™s breaking off.ā€

It was when she was having a one-on-one conversation with Powell, 36, though, that things took a turn. ā€œI was talking to Glen Powell in the corner near my table, and we were joking around about something and I lifted my arms up, and my boobs were just out. My dress fell apart,ā€ she shares.Ā

Thankfully, Seyfried was in the company of a true gentleman. ā€œWe both screamed, and like the gentleman he is, he covered me. He didnā€™t lookā€¦ I think. None of us were expecting that, but that dress had truly just given up.ā€

When Seyfried went on stage to accept her award, she had to improvise. ā€œI ended up wearing someone elseā€™s jacket on stage,ā€ she explains. ā€œBecause, well, it wouldā€™ve just been my boobs.ā€

Seyfried shared more memorable moments from her life with the magazine for One Last Thing:

Last time I laughed

I got sent a picture of my kids [Nina, 7, and Thomas, 4] dressed up like weirdos . . . like the Beastie Boys. I couldnā€™t believe a photo could make me laugh so much. It was perfection.

Last time I sang out loudĀ

Yesterday I was singing [Sabrina Carpenterā€™s] ā€œPlease, Please, Pleaseā€ for at least four hours on set. I was probably annoying people. I did hear myself saying, ā€œSorry, sorry, sorry.ā€

Last impulse purchaseĀ

The way-too-expensive cashmere sweater that Iā€™m wearing at the moment that I have to wear every day until I get my moneyā€™s worth. I did the same thing two years ago and wore it nonstop. People were like, ā€œAre you okay?ā€

Last memorable fan encounter

Craig Conover from Southern Charm and I follow each other on Instagram, and he posted that he was watching Letters to Juliet. I was like, ā€œWow, thatā€™s unexpected.ā€ Itā€™s so funny when people say they love something thatā€™s not Mamma Mia!

Long Bright River is available on March 13 on Peacock.
