Allison Holker had to let her home with her late husband, Stephen “tWitch” Boss, go.

In a new Richer Lives by SoFi podcast interview published on Tuesday, Oct. 8, the professional dancer, 36, opened up about how her career, family and finances changed overnight following tWitch’s sudden death by suicide at age 40 in December 2022.

Holker and Boss share three children together — Zaia, 4, and Maddox, 8, and Weslie, 16.

“That home was our security blanket for a really long time. We loved that home. It always felt so safe to us, but it did take a turn,” she told host Vivian Tu of the family’s Encino, Calif., property.

“And a lot of people don’t talk about that after grief is like, I was holding on to these past emotions, thinking it was saving me, but it started to swallow us, and it was a very, very big decision to uproot my children. Their lives had already been so changed,” she continued.

Holker admits that even though the home was filled with memories, it “started to swallow us.”

“I was like, ‘Is this okay for me to do this to them?’ It was the best decision for us, because when we moved, we bought a new home, and that became our sanctuary. It was like the final step to our healing, where now we could leave that in the past and we could finally take a step forward for each other. And it became freedom,” the So You Think You Can Dance? alum said.

The mother of three was grateful that their new house “became a place for us to find solace and create new memories and new beginnings and fresh starts.”

“And everyone kind of felt like a weight was lifted off from our shoulders. But it’s a very big decision, because, you know? We’re already grieving,” she added.

They purchased the former home in 2019, and shared footage of their redesign in 2021.

At the time, Holker told PEOPLE she “really wanted the home to feel like a sanctuary for us where we could breathe together and just create memories in this really warm space.”

The Encino property sold for $3.525 million in November 2023.

In August, Holker soft-launched a new romance a year and a half after tWitch’s death. Her new partner was later revealed to be tech CEO Adam Edmunds.
