Mariah Carey said the season has started, and these stars heard her loud and clear.
While each family has their own feelings about when the holiday season officially begins, for these celebs, they’re saying “Bah Humbug” to any of those rules and kicking off the festivities early.
From Jimmy Fallon’s take that there is no such thing as “too soon” to listen to Christmas music to Kelly Clarkson’s year-round Christmas room, see how these season pushers are already in the holiday spirit.
Drew and Jonathan Scott
The Property Brothers deck the halls the moment the calendar flips from October to November.
“I mean, day one of Christmas is November 1st,” Drew told PEOPLE Nov. 12. “The moment Halloween is done, I flick a switch and all of my lights turn to Christmas.”
In the same interview, Jonathan concurred that he and his fiancée Zooey Deschanel already had their lights and tree set up — and would not be taking any criticism from the internet.
“I think those people, they just seem to worry too much,” he said. “I think people can express themselves however they want to express themselves.”
Mariah Carey
No one does better PR for Christmas than Mariah Carey herself. This year she kicked off the season shortly after midnight on Nov. 1 with her annual “It’s Time” video on Instagram.
In last year’s video, as the date officially changed from Oct. 31 to Nov. 1, a vault door opened to reveal Carey — frozen in a block of ice — as Halloween-themed characters chipped away. But it wasn’t until the star hit her iconic “It’s time!” that the ice broke.
Kelly Clarkson
For Kelly Clarkson and her family, reminders of the Christmas season are never too far away. On a Nov. 4 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the singer shared that she has “a Christmas room.”
“I decorated it the first year for Christmas, and then I was like, ‘That was a lot of work. We’ll shut the doors until [next] Christmas,” she said with a laugh. “So we have a whole room, but we literally will go in there and dance throughout the day and just put Christmas songs on.”
Kristin Chenoweth
And while Kristin Chenoweth might not have a whole room dedicated to the season year-round, she did tell PEOPLE that she started decorating for the holidays early.
“First of all, I need to be cheered up this year,” the Wicked alumna told PEOPLE. “I need to be happy and I’m going to start decorating early and I’m not going to be ashamed.”
And for those who might think her actions are premature, “Oh, go away,” she jokes. “You can be Bah Humbug but don’t get in the way of my spirit of happiness.”
“I think nowadays our world is so difficult. I don’t need to go there. It’s obvious. We need to be happy,” she continued. “We need to look for things that bring us cheer and joy, and if getting ready for Christmas and Hanukkah and all of it makes you happy, go for it.”
Travis & Jason Kelce
The Kelce family is in agreement on what day the Christmas tree goes up.
“I think Thanksgiving has always been the date,” Jason Kelce said on a recent episode of New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, later adding “preferably you put it up on Thanksgiving.”
While Travis agreed that that was the Kelce family tradition, the Kansas City Chiefs star expressed that seeing Christmas lights at the beginning of November is where he draws the line: “Don’t do that to me.”
Alex Drummond
In the Holiday 2024 issue of mom Ree Drummond’s The Pioneer Woman Magazine, Alex Drummond shared that she and her husband Mauricio Scott’s Dallas home was already Christmastime ready. The house, which they’ve shared since 2021, is decked out with everything from Christmas throw pillows to garland wrapped banisters to the Christmas tree.
Jimmy Fallon
According to Jimmy Fallon (asking Dwayne Johnson holiday questions, above), the best time to listen to holiday music is right now.
“I don’t think you can listen to Christmas music too soon,” Fallon, who recently released his album Holiday Seasoning, tells PEOPLE. “I think you can listen to holiday music whenever you want.”
He adds, “[If] it makes you happy, put on Mariah. Crank it!”
Jinger Duggar Vuolo
Jinger Duggar Vuolo said that while her family usually waits until after Thanksgiving to bring out the Christmas decorations, this year they decided to switch things up.
“This year was a bit different,” she wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of her decorated space. “We couldn’t wait! The Christmas trees are up and we’re loving it! 😍”
