Before their bombshell announcement, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle dropped subtle hints that they were plotting a move back to the UK.
Page Six confirmed Wednesday that the Sussexes will be returning to Britain at the end of the month for âan extended periodâ with their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5.
The impending move comes six years after the couple famously quit their royal duties and fled the UK for Montecito, California, where theyâve been raising their kids in their $14 million mansion.
Within the last year, there have been several signs that Harry, 41, and Markle, 45, were itching to get back to his native country, despite previously vowing theyâd never move back.
The most obvious sign was when the Sussexes reunited with King Charles III and Queen Camilla in England just weeks before the bombshell news broke.

Harry confirms he wants to âreconcileâ with estranged family
Harry became estranged from his family, including dad Charles and brother Prince William, after he exposed their alleged secrets in his 2021 Oprah Winfrey tell-all interview, the 2022 Netflix docuseries âHarry & Meghanâ and his 2023 memoir, âSpare.â
However, in a May 2025 interview with BBC News, Harry insisted that heâd âlove reconciliationâ with the royal family.
âThere have been so many disagreements, differences, between me and some of my family,â he said at the time, adding that his biggest issue was his ongoing fight to get publicly funded security for himself, his wife and their kids in the UK.
Harry acknowledged that while âsome membersâ of his family will ânever forgiveâ him for âlots of things,â including âwriting a book,â he said, âThereâs no point in continuing to fight.â
He also pointed out that âlife is preciousâ and admitted that he doesnât âknow how much longerâ Charles has left, referencing the 77-year-old monarch and his battle with cancer.
Harry says he feels âdrawn to come backâ to England
In September 2025, Harry had a discussion at the WellChild Awards with singer Joss Stone, who claimed the pair bonded over feeling âdrawn to come backâ to England.
Stone, who relocated from Nashville back to the UK earlier last year, said the Duke of Sussex âasked about how we were settling back in and was genuinely interested in our move home.â
âMaybe Harry will move back too,â the Grammy Award winner predicted at the time. âThat would be nice.â
Stone also claimed Harry âwas saying how wonderful the schools are here and how important community is for children.â
Harry writes a love letter to Britain on Remembrance Day 2025
Harry gushed about England in a November 2025 essay for Remembrance Day, the annual holiday honoring deceased UK military members.
While reflecting on his own 10-year stint in the British Army, Harry wrote, âThough currently, I may live in the United States, Britain is, and always will be, the country I proudly served and fought for.â
He continued, âThe banter of the mess, the clubhouse, the pub, the stands ridiculous as it sounds, these are the things that make us British. I make no apology for it. I love it.â
Prince Archie wears England soccer shirt in Meghanâs Fatherâs Day post
Markleâs 2026 Fatherâs Day tribute to her husband included a photo of Archie sporting an England soccer T-shirt, as he and his little sister hugged their dad.
âTheyâre so lucky to have you,â the former âSuitsâ star captioned the Instagram post. âWe all are. Happy Fatherâs Day to our one and only.â
Archie, notably, was raised in the UK for a little over one year before his parents fled to North America.
Lilibet, meanwhile, was born and raised in California.
Harry and Meghan return to the UK and reunite with King Charles
After dealing with security concerns, Harry, along with his wife and their kids, met with Charles and Queen Camilla at the Kingâs country estate, Highgrove House, on July 10.
The sit-down marked the first time Charles saw his daughter-in-law and grandkids in four years.
Details of the meeting still have not been publicly disclosed, though a source told Page Six that the gathering âwasnât entirely warm and fuzzy.â
About a week later, Page Six exclusively reported that Harry was overheard telling guests at the TIME 100 Sports Gala that Markle and the children were âhappyâ to be home in California after their UK visit.
Meghan and her kids visit Princess Dianaâs childhood home
During their summer trip to the UK in July, the family of four visited Princess Dianaâs childhood home at Althorp.
Markle posted pictures of Lilibet walking through a grassy field with trees while wearing a dress as Prince Archie walked barefoot in a pair of shorts.
Diana is buried on a secluded island called Oval Lake at Althorp. She died in a car accident at age 36 in August 1997, when Harry was just 12 years old.

Meghan wears Dianaâs earrings in last public appearance before news of the move
Less than two weeks before we confirmed the Sussexesâ impending move, Markle wore her late mother-in-lawâs diamond and sapphire earrings to a gala for David Fosterâs foundation in Canada.
She and Harry attended the event together and took pictures with Foster and his wife, Katharine McPhee.
Foster notably arranged Harry and Markleâs private Vancouver Island getaway in late 2019 before the couple quit their royal duties.
