Alec Baldwin claims Melania Trump loves his Donald Trump impersonation on “Saturday Night Live” — because she thinks it “exactly” captures her husband.
Baldwin claimed at a 92nd Street Y event that former Trump press secretary Sean Spicer spilled backstage at the Emmys one year.
“Spicer — maybe he had a couple drinks, I don’t know; I wasn’t there… he says to the people at ‘SNL,’ ‘Melania watches the show every Saturday night. And she points at the TV and says “That’s what he’s like! That is what he’s like! Exactly! Alec Baldwin is exactly like Donald!”‘”
“We’re gagging laughing, but it made sense!,” Baldwin told the crowd at the event. “She loves when they give it to him, you know what I mean?”
Baldwin appeared as the President on the late-night show from October 2016 to November 2020. He won an Emmy for the role in 2017.
Trump is now played by James Austin Johnson.
The President hosted the show in November 2015 and April 2004.
Apparently POTUS doesn’t agree.
“Watched Saturday Night Live hit job on me. Time to retire the boring and unfunny show,” Trump has tweeted. “Alec Baldwin portrayal stinks. Media rigging election!”
On a separate occasion that same year, he tweeted, “Just tried watching ‘Saturday Night Live’ – unwatchable! Totally biased, not funny and the Baldwin impersonation just can’t get any worse. Sad.”
In 2022, he tweeted, “I once hosted ‘Saturday Night Live,’ and the ratings were HUUUGE! Now, however, the ratings are lower than ever before, and the show will probably be put to rest.”
The show has also mimicked Melania before. She was played by Cecily Strong for a few seasons and they had a recurring feature called “Melania Moments.”
