Audiences aren’t aware of just how fraught the relationships between the cast on The Traitors were, according to Alan Cumming.

The Emmy winner, 60, spoke to PEOPLE about what audiences aren’t privy to while watching The Traitors at the Producer’s Guild Awards on Saturday, Feb. 8. As the host of the popular Peacock competition series, Cumming revealed that the round table deliberations were even more “vicious” than what was shown to audiences.

“There were bits in the round tables that I actually thought I was going to have to break up a fight,” he said, noting that “it got even more harsh than what you see.”

“Boston Rob [Mariano] and Bob the Drag Queen, that got even more vicious. And between Carolyn [Wiger] and Danielle [Reyes], some stuff, I don’t know if it’s happened already, I’ve seen a bit of it, but there’s more to come,” he revealed.

“It’s harsh. It’s harsh to be in the room because you feel the energy, and everyone takes it so personally,” he continued. “They’re in this bubble. They have nothing else to think about.”

He then added, “And it’s called The Traitors, but they start thinking like that. They’ve got no touchstone and nothing to compare it to, and their whole life is that for rest of this week.”

Cumming also joked that “hilariously for a reality show, there’s no reality” since the participants don’t have their phones or contact to the outside world.

The Traitors follows a cast of contestants competing to solve a murder mystery game in exchange for $250,000, and each season casts an unlikely group of reality TV stars. The season 3 participants range fromThe Bachelor‘s Wells Adams and Gabby Windey to Bravo’s Tom Sandoval, Chanel Ayan, Dolores Catania, Ciara Miller, Robyn Dixon and Dorinda Medley.

Several Survivor stars entered the competition as well, including Mariano, Wiger, Tony Vlachos and Jeremy Collins. Big Brother’s Reyes, Britney Haynes, and Derrick Levasseur also participated. Other familiar faces include Wes Bergmann, Chrishell Stause, Bob the Drag Queen, Dylan Efron, Nikki Garcia, Bob Harper, Britney Spears’ ex Sam Asghari and Lord Ivar Mountbatten.

Cumming also revealed to PEOPLE that he thinks this third season is the series’ most chaotic one to date, noting how traitors are constantly fighting amongst themselves.

“I just don’t understand it,” he confessed. “I mean, I started thinking Boston Rob, you can sort of think that’s his thing. He’s always a bit of a s—. Danielle, to me, I’m just like, ‘What are you doing? What are you doing?’ There’s no game. It’s just chaos.”

“And Carolyn I think is just sort of a chaos sidekick. I saw her recently. She came to a viewing party at Club Cumming and I said, ‘I’m worried about you, Carolyn,’ ” he added. “She goes, ‘Well, I watch it all the time and I journal and I do cry a bit.’ I said, ‘Oh my God, you’re still going through it type of thing?’ ”
