Fleetwood Mac rocker Lindsey Buckingham was reportedly attacked by a woman known to him while attending an appointment in Santa Monica, California, on Wednesday. The 76-year-old was doused with an unknown substance when entering the building, and the woman quickly fled the scene, as per NBC4 LA.

Authorities described the woman as a stalking suspect, and no arrests have been made at the time of reporting. He was reportedly not injured in the attack. The incident comes just over a year after Lindsey was granted a restraining order against an alleged stalker by the name of Michelle. It is unclear if this case is connected to the attack on Wednesday.

According to court documents, Michelle had allegedly been harassing the guitarist and his family since 2021 and reportedly made threats on their lives. He shares kids Leelee, Stella and William with his estranged wife, Kristen Messner.

Lindsey told the court at the time that Michelle was “leaving long drawn-out messages that included the claim that she was my child and threats to kill me and my family”.

He clarified that he was not the father and that she was unknown to him before this incident. The father of three added that Michelle allegedly “blamed me for facial deformities she apparently suffered as a child and demanded money”.

In one incident, Lindsey was handcuffed by police at his house following a 911 call, which was later traced to Michelle’s phone. According to him, emergency services were informed by the caller that gunshots had been heard coming from the house and that his son, William, intended to hurt himself. The police then released Lindsey after surveying the area and realizing it had been a false call.

He was the subject of stalking for several years

“I now know that the 911 call was traced to [Michelle’s] phone and was the latest in an unabated pattern of harassment and threatening acts against my family and me,” he shared in court. Lindsey was granted a five-year restraining order against Michelle, who was ordered to stay 100 yards away from him and his family and to cease harassing them in any way.

Lindsey has endured a difficult number of years, after he was ousted from Fleetwood Mac in 2018 due to reported tensions between himself and the band’s lead singer, Stevie Nicks.

A year later, he had a heart attack and underwent triple bypass surgery, which left his vocal cords damaged due to a breathing tube. “I’ll tell you what: between the Fleetwood Mac stuff and the heart attack, it’s all been humbling,” he told The Los Angeles Times in 2021.

“I’ve never suffered from a lack of confidence, and sometimes could get carried away with that in the process of leading the band,” he continued. “But everything has pulled me in a little bit. I’m not as aggressive a person as I was before, which is probably not a bad thing. It made me look around more – and become less self-involved, hopefully.”

Lindsey and Stevie, who were originally a musical duo and romantically involved for several years, joined Fleetwood Mac in 1974, kickstarting a new era for the band. Together with Christine McVie, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood, the group soared to new heights with their 1977 album Rumours, which included hits like “Go Your Own Way”, “The Chain” and “Dreams”.
