Though Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are used to being in the public eye, the same cannot be said for their cousins, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Since stepping down as working members of the royal family in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have taken a more private approach to releasing photographs of their children, and their faces have only been seen a handful of times.
Even when still senior royals, the couple broke tradition after their son’s birth and didn’t share a photo of him with the public until two days later. Their daughter Lilibet was born in America in June 2021, but the couple did not share a photograph of her until their holiday card in December that year. While they released another photo to mark her first birthday the following year, Archie and Lilibet were not seen again until a holiday card in 2024.
To maintain Archie and Lili’s privacy, they are usually seen facing away from the camera in photos shared by Meghan on Instagram. In some, such as the family’s trip to Disneyland last year, the children have their faces obscured by emojis.
By contrast, Prince William and Kate regularly share photographs of their children for special occasions such as birthdays, and they also attend public events such as Trooping the Colour in June.
However, there have been a few rare occasions when Harry and Meghan have chosen to let the rule slide…
Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet also made a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance in a video of the family carving pumpkins together in October.
The family had visited Lane Farms in Santa Barbara to pick out their Halloween decorations and, afterwards, Meghan shared a sped-up time-lapse on Instagram of Harry carving a spooky face.
Archie and Lili were seen playing in the background and showed a rare glimpse of their faces, turned towards the camera.
Despite being blurry, it was the first time pictures of the siblings’ faces had been shown to the public for years.
3. Archie looking ever-so smart
Sweet baby pictures and videos of Prince Archie were shown in the Sussexes’ 2022 Netflix documentary, Harry & Meghan. However, pictures of Archie as a little boy have been much more rare.
Archie was seen in the family’s holiday card in 2021, looking very smart in a white shirt and a pair of jeans. He was matching his dad Prince Harry, complete with his bright red hair, with both choosing to go barefoot.
In June last year, Meghan shared the clearest picture of Lilibet since 2022 in a photo released to mark her fourth birthday.
In the picture, which appeared to have been taken on a boat, the top half of Lili’s face was visible, with her nose and mouth covered by Meghan’s arms. Lilibet had windswept hair and was sweetly curled up in a hug with her mother.
Meghan wrote at the time: “Happy birthday to our beautiful girl! Four years ago today she came into our lives – and each day is brighter and better because of it. Thanks to all of those sending love and celebrating her special day!”
