2025 is all about low-maintenance hair trends, but with a touch of glamour.
Last year, we saw a return to more natural hair looks with everything from blunt bobs to subtle highlights gaining popularity. Celebrity hairstylist and Balmain Hair ambassador Gonn Kinoshita tells PEOPLE that he sees a continuation of these styles in 2025 with a mix of retro-inspired cuts and rich hair colors taking over.
“There will still be an emphasis on natural-looking volume and movement, evolving from last year’s trends towards a more relaxed and textured aesthetic,” he says.
The shift from high-maintenance colors to simple cuts and styles can largely be attributed to the high value placed on hair health in recent years.
“2024 was about carefree textures and undone finishes, but this year will see a shift toward polished yet low-maintenance glam,” adds celebrity hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos. “People want hair that looks healthy, shiny and luxurious without feeling over-styled. Gloss treatments, shine-enhancing oils and scalp care will be key as clients continue to prioritize hair wellness over temporary fads.”
Ahead, celebrity stylists and hair experts share their top predictions for 2025 hair trends — from cuts and colors to styles.
2025 Haircuts
Curtain Fringe
Curtain fringe is the perfect low-maintenance alternative to traditional bangs, so it’s no surprise that the style is a mainstay for 2025. The face-framing cut is a signature look for stars like Dakota Johnson and Daisy Edgar-Jones who have been known to favor soft, ‘70s-inspired bangs.
“These bangs pair beautifully with layered cuts for a romantic, face-flattering effect,” R+Co Vice President of Technical Education Adam Federico tells PEOPLE. He recommends asking your stylist for heavy, face-framing fringe that blends into soft layers before adjusting the length to suit your face shape.
If you want to try a short haircut with the fringe, co-founder of IGK Hair Aaron Grenia suggests pairing curtain bangs with a mid-length lob for a look that has “softness and versatility.”
Precision Bob
Asymmetric bobs were trending in 2024, but this year, the focus is on maintaining a sleek, precision-cut bob. Federico says the 2025 version of the bob is all about clean, structured edges that hit right at the jawline.
“This bold, sculpted style is ideal for angular or oval face shapes,” he explains. “Ask your stylist for a jawline-length bob like Hailey Bieber’s, with sharp edges and minimal layering.”
Kinoshita adds that this look is appealing because it has a classic, ‘90s feel to it. He also recommends skipping out on layering and instead having your stylist “simply cut straight across with shears to create a uniform length.”
Pixie Cut
Emma Stone debuted a red pixie cut at the 2025 Golden Globes, signaling a shift towards chic, low-maintenance haircuts.
“The classic pixie cut keeps the traditional short length on the sides and back, with slightly longer layers on top for a versatile styling approach,” says Giannetos. “Whether styled sleek and polished or tousled for a more relaxed look, this cut complements a lot of face shapes.”
For a dramatic chop like this, Giannetos recommends having a conversation with your stylist about preferred lengths for the top, sides and back of your hair. He also says that the use of specific tools will affect the cut, with clippers or scissors providing clean, tapered sides.
“Cut the top longer, using point-cutting or razoring for texture and softness,” Giannetos explains. “Ensure smooth transitions between lengths with blending shears or a razor.”
Bixie
Committing to a big chop can be nerve-wracking, so it’s often a good idea to start with a slightly more subtle haircut before taking the leap. That’s where the bixie — a mix between a bob and a pixie cut — comes in.
Kinoshita says that this haircut has a “slightly messy texture,” which can make for easy styling. “To achieve a bixie haircut, you should aim for a style that combines the short, layered front of a pixie cut with the slightly longer, fuller back of a bob, along with the textured layers,” he explains.
Long, Blunt Layers
A bold chop isn’t a must-do for 2025. If you prefer to maintain long tresses or are in the process of growing out a short haircut, consider long layers.
Grenia notes that long, blunt layers will be popular because they provide movement and texture “while keeping length intact for those who love their long hair.” Take inspiration from stars like Jennifer Lopez and Priyanka Chopra who are champions of the effortless cut.
At the salon, Grenia recommends asking for long layers with a blunt baseline and internal texturing to successfully achieve the look.
2025 Hair Colors
Mocha Brown
Mocha Mousse was named the 2025 Pantone Color of the Year and the rich hue is making its way into the beauty world. A slightly darker shade of brown, mocha brown tresses will be the in-demand hue for brunettes.
“Mocha is the standout color for 2025, with its rich and super complimentary undertones it suits almost everyone,” says the Director of R+COLOR Education & R+COLOR Collective Member Renée Valerie. “Mocha brown complements cooler skin tones beautifully by adding a touch of warmth for balance.”
For those with warmer skin tones, Valerie recommends adding a neutral root smudge to help frame your face. She also says to share inspiration photos with your stylist to “ensure you and your stylist are envisioning the same look.”
French Vanilla Blonde
In 2025, Valerie says a natural shade of blonde she dubs “French vanilla blonde” will be making the rounds.
“French vanilla is simple, stylish, and gives off a calm confidence,” she explains. “This shade is ideal for guests with warmer skin tones, creating a balanced and refined look.”
French vanilla blonde, seen on celebrities like Pamela Anderson and Anya Taylor-Joy, is more versatile than platinum blonde and typically requires less maintenance.
“To create the ideal French vanilla blonde, I prefer a classic, seamless method using highlights and glossing,” Valerie says, pointing to global lighting application as an alternative method.
Honey Copper
Statement-making reds were trending in 2024, but this year there will be a return to warmer shades of red. Honey copper, which gives the red hue a golden tint, has already been seen on stars like Zendaya and Keke Palmer.
“A warmer take on red hair, honeyed copper blends the richness of red with soft golden undertones, offering a sunlit glow,” says co-founder of IGK Hair Chase Kusero. “Ask for a multidimensional copper base with honey or caramel balayage for added warmth and brightness.”
To maintain the red between salon visits, he recommends treating your hair with a color depositing mask in a copper shade like the IGK Color Depositing Mask in “On The Money.”
Champagne Beige
A unique twist on the bronde look, champagne beige tresses are on the rise for 2025. The luxurious-sounding hue is a blend of creamy blonde and sandy beige, which is already a signature look of Queen Bey herself, Beyoncé.
Kusero says the color will gain popularity because it acts as “the perfect balance of warm and cool” and offers a “luxurious, polished look.” To achieve the right hue, he recommends asking your stylist for a champagne blonde base with beige lowlights to add some depth to the look.
Blush Tones
If you’re looking to make a statement in 2025, blush tones are the eye-catching trend that will completely transform your hair. Giannetos says blush tones feature soft pink hues, reminiscent of rose gold, that will add “warmth and dimension” to your hair “without going too bold.”
Dying your hair pink, even in a shade as light as this, can be a complex process. He explains that after pre-lightening hair to a pale yellow base, a mix of direct dyes and demi-permanent colors are often used to achieve the soft blush pink shade. Then, a warm gloss treatment will help to enhance the shine and richness of your hair.
For maintaining color, Giannetos recommends using a color-safe shampoo such as L’Oreal’s Elvive Color Vibrancy Protecting Shampoo and having regular gloss refreshes every four to six weeks.
2025 Hair Styles
‘60s Volume
Celebrities like Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning have recently embraced ‘60s-inspired hair styles on the red carpet and the retro look will carry on through 2025.
“This trend is all about capturing hair that has a ‘60s feel of fullness and bounce,” says celebrity hairstylist and co-founder of R+Co Garren. To create a volume-heavy look, he recommends starting with a volume spray before refreshing the ends with a hair tonic, like R+Co Bleu’s Essential Hair Tonic.
“Blow dry the hair loosely until it’s 90% dry then place the electric or velcro rollers, heat them up, do your makeup then brush your hair out,” Garren says. Increase the volume by teasing the crown of your hair and adding hairspray to the ends.
Create a side part and place a barrette in your hair to remove some hair from your face. He recommends finishing the look by giving your hair a slight tousle for a playful twist on the vintage style.
Half-Up Half-Down
It doesn’t get easier than a half-up half-down hairstyle. The simple and timeless look will be having a moment in 2025 with Kinoshita noting the style’s “perfect blend of elegance and effortlessness.”
Whether you opt for sleek tresses or tight curls, this style pairs well with all hair types. “To create the look, section off the top half of your hair and secure it loosely with a clip,” says Kinoshita.
If you desire more dimension, he suggests using a curling wand or straightener to add gentle waves to your hair.
Wet-Look Waves
A favorite of Kim Kardashian, the wet look is making another comeback in 2025 with an emphasis on waves rather than a slicked-back style.
“High-gloss, ‘fresh-out-of-the-ocean’ waves add drama and shine for red carpets or casual nights out,” says co-founder of IGK Hair Leo Izquierdo. Whether you’re rocking a chin-length bob or have waist-length tresses, he says this style suits all hair lengths and face shapes.
If you want to try out the wet look, Izquierdo recommends asking your stylist for soft, sculpted waves that are styled with a wet-look gel or spray.
Supermodel Blowout
The classic supermodel blowout had a resurgence in 2023, and, this year, it’s back in full force. With Sabrina Carpenter putting a new spin on the ‘90s look for nearly every red carpet, it’s clearly a style that’s here to stay.
Kinoshita notes that the statement hairstyle is all about bounce and volume. To achieve the look, he recommends starting by prepping your hair with a volumizing mousse like Balmain Hair’s Volume Mousse Strong before blow drying it in sections. Use a round brush to lift the roots and shape the ends during the drying process. Then, finish with a lightweight hairspray to ensure long-lasting volume.
Claw Clips
In terms of accessories, 2025 is the year of the claw clip. The Y2K accessory has been a favorite of stars like Kendall Jenner, Sofia Richie Grainge and Bella Hadid.
“Claw clips aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, and we’re definitely going to see a rise in simple acetate hair clips,” says Giannetos, referencing the green clip he previously used on Gigi Hadid.
Thanks to their versatility, claw clips can be used for a French twist updo or to secure a messy bun. “They’re the perfect alternative to spending hours styling your hair, and who doesn’t love a messy updo paired with a cute clip,” notes Giannetos.
