Casualty has been on air since 1986, welcoming dozens of actors to Holby City General over the years. One star who has played a major part in the show’s history is Tristan Gemmill, who appeared in the medical drama between 2007 and 2011.
The 58-year-old actor had several major storylines on the show, including an affair with Jessica Harrison (Gillian Kearney), losing his son in a car accident, clashing with clinical lead Nick Jordan (Michael French) and playing God with patients, which ultimately led to the character’s departure in 2011.
Tristan is also known for playing Robert Preston on Coronation Street, with the character being killed off in 2019. He has also had roles in the likes of Agatha Christie’s Poirot, London’s Burning, Distant Shores and The Bill.
Since 2001, Tristan has been married to retired actress Emily Hamilton, and the pair once shared the screen together in Casualty.
Here’s all you need to know about the pair…
Tristan’s famous wife Emily Hamilton
Like her husband, Emily is in the acting industry, with the star making her debut in an episode of Wycliffe back in 1994. The star has since had credits in The Ruth Rendell Mysteries, City Central, Always and Everyone and The Bill.
However, one of Emily’s biggest roles came in the fourth episode of docudrama The Queen. Like Netflix smash The Crown, the programme showcased the late Queen at various points of her life, and Emily appeared in the fourth episode, playing Princess Diana. In the episode, she featured alongside the likes of Barbara Flynn, Paul Rhys, Dominic Jephcott, Ian Shaw, Doreen Mantle and Kenneth Colley.
With Emily being an actress, it has helped Tristan navigate one of the more awkward aspects of his career. During an appearance on Loose Women, he discussed intimate scenes, where he said: “In our business, you end up doing romantic scenes and kissing scenes, and my wife doesn’t care at all because she does it in her line of work as well.”
The couple share three children; however, despite both Tristan and Emily being in entertainment, it’s not an industry that he wants his children to follow them into. “I would be actively discouraging them [from going] into acting, I won’t be dangling it in front of them,” he said on the programme.
